Sydney, Australia Westpac Group Full time

How will I help?

An exciting opportunity is available for a Senior Cloud Network Engineer to join the Secure Network Services team in Group Technology. The Cloud Networks team is responsible for designing, building, managing, optimizing, and supporting high-performance cloud network services and infrastructure for the Westpac Group.

As a Senior Cloud Network Engineer, you'll partner with and work very closely with customers and the broader networks and infrastructure teams. You’ll be instrumental in engineering, delivering, and refining cloud network patterns in public cloud environments. Leveraging Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC), you'll take charge of building and deploying public cloud network infrastructure, ensuring it is robust, efficient, and continually enhanced through rigorous testing and ongoing improvements.

Your key responsibilities include:

  • Design & Deployment: Design, develop, test, and deploy complex public cloud network and security infrastructure, including associated Infrastructure-as-Code.
  • Technical Consultation: Provide expert consultation for new cloud infrastructure patterns and standards.
  • Infrastructure Management: Maintain and manage cloud network patterns through Infrastructure-as-Code, with a focus on improving existing delivery pipelines and procedures.
  • Support & Issue Resolution: Offer specialized third-level support to manage and resolve issues in public cloud network environments promptly (potential for on-call support).
  • Planning & Performance Monitoring: Contribute to infrastructure planning, capacity assessments, performance monitoring, and tuning. Liaise with third-party vendors to ensure stability and availability of technology infrastructure services.
  • Service Improvement: Lead and implement service improvement initiatives to enhance public cloud network operational support services.
  • Strategy & Governance: Assist in developing technology strategies, standards, and governance procedures.

What’s in it for me?

You will play an important and significant part in the future of a business that has been around for 200 years. Our vision is to become one of the world’s great service companies. So, we will back you in the development of your career, with internal career prospects and flexible working. You will also be backed by a fantastic team of people in a can-do, supportive structure.

Whatever shape your family takes, we offer generous paid and unpaid parental leave for your nominated primary and support carers. This includes leave to organise adoptions, surrogacy, and foster care arrangements.

What do I need?

To succeed in this Senior Cloud Network Engineer role, you should have:

  • Experience: Significant IT industry experience, with at least three years in a highly technical role within a complex IT infrastructure environment.
  • Public Cloud Expertise: In-depth knowledge of public cloud infrastructure and understanding of networking components like virtual networks, subnets, IP addressing, routing, security groups, load balancers, and firewalls.
  • Multi-Cloud & Migration: Expertise in managing and integrating networks across multiple cloud providers (e.g., Azure, AWS, Google Cloud), as well as migrating on-premises networks to cloud environments or between different cloud providers.
  • Security Best Practices: Strong understanding of security best practices in cloud environments, including network segmentation, encryption, and access control.
  • Automation & Provisioning: Expertise in automating cloud network provisioning using Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC) tools such as Terraform, Git, Python, and Ansible. Ability to design, implement, and manage CI/CD pipelines to streamline the deployment and management of cloud infrastructure.
  • Certifications: Relevant certifications such as AWS Solutions Architect, AWS Advanced Networking, Azure Network Engineer Associate, and Cisco certifications like CCNA or CCNP.
  • Networking Skills: Proficiency in TCP/IP networking, DNS, DHCP, VPN, firewalling, micro-segmentation technologies, and network monitoring tools. Experience with software-defined networking overlays (SDN) such as VXLAN EVPN or VMware NSX is a plus.
  • Problem-Solving: Strong analytical, problem-solving, and troubleshooting skills, including experience with diagnosing and resolving complex network issues.
  • Industry Experience: Experience in a complex, enterprise financial services environment is desirable.
  • Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Service Management: Understanding of the ITIL framework, including incident, change, and problem management.
  • Project Management & DevOps Tools: Familiarity with project management and DevOps tools such as Jira.
