Why Your Role Matters

:
The Research Fellow will be based in the UNSW School of the Arts and Media and will collaborate closely with the at UNSW, University of Sydney Law School, and Melbourne Law School. The Fellow will contribute to two closely connected projects: and Across the two projects, the Fellow will be responsible for conducting research and analysing in-depth the challenges and possibilities for communicating the ecological implications of artificial intelligence (AI) and other automated digital technologies, as well as regulatory responses to them. The Fellow will lead and collaborate on research that contributes to the development of an ‘ADM + Ecosystems Playbook’ for organisations seeking to implement automated decision-making technologies. The Fellow will also contribute to submission writing in relation to the regulation of AI and other automated systems.

The Research Fellow will be based in the UNSW School of the Arts and Media and will collaborate closely with the ADM+S Centre at UNSW, University of Sydney Law School, and Melbourne Law School. All Centre Research Fellows have access to the ADM+S’s research training and professional development opportunities, international visiting fellowships and exchanges (travel arrangements permitting), and the Centre’s network of industry partners.

The role of Research Associate/Post-Doctoral Fellow reports to A/Prof Michael Richardson and has no direct reports.

Responsibilities Summary:

Contribute independently or as a team member in collaborative research with a focus to enhance the quality of research outcomes in the discipline area. Conduct research (as per the norms of the discipline) and/or enable research teams to create scholarly output that is recognised by peers. Undertake specific research project/s under the guidance of a research leader and contribute to development of research activities. Support the dissemination of research outcomes through appropriate channels and outlets. Undertake discipline-appropriate research activities, e.g. surveys, literature reviews, data gathering and/or recording of results using appropriate research methods. Conduct high-quality research relevant to the objectives of the Regulatory Project and ADM, Ecosystems and Multispecies Relationships Project, both independently and as part of project teams Prepare and publish research outcomes in relevant high-quality refereed journals, reports and/or books Present research outcomes at seminars, conferences and industry meetings, and engage with external stakeholders Contribute to public understanding and debate through media, industry and/or policy engagement Contribute actively to the School of the Arts and Media and ARC Centre research culture, including participation in research collaboration and community-building Assist in the day-to-day management of research projects

Skills and Experience Summary:

A PhD in a related discipline, and/or relevant work experience. Proven commitment to proactively keeping up to date with discipline knowledge and developments. Demonstrated ability to undertake high quality academic research and conduct independent research with limited supervision. Research or professional expertise in environmental communication, or the environmental humanities, with experience in policy, law, or regulation particularly welcome. Demonstrated track record of publications and conference presentations relative to opportunity. Demonstrated ability to work in a team, collaborate across disciplines and build effective relationships. Evidence of highly developed interpersonal skills. Demonstrated ability to communicate and interact with a diverse range of stakeholders and students.
