The Professor, Obstetrics & Gynaecology, will take on leadership of the , School of Clinical Medicine, UNSW Sydney, driving educational and research excellence and innovation within the clinical and non-clinical campuses. This is an opportunity for applicants with a distinguished clinical and academic career, with a subspecialty interest relevant to the Discipline and the health network partners (see Clinical Academic below) –including the areas of reproductive endocrinology and infertility or gynaecological oncology. The position will be based at the Royal Hospital for Women (the Royal) in Randwick and will expand current expertise in women’s health research, education and practice across the UNSW Medicine network. The successful candidate will be responsible for driving a culture of excellence, inclusivity and respect within the discipline and leading the development and operationalisation of a strategy for the Discipline of Women’s health within the Faculty.
UNSW’s women's health academics are contributing and collaborating locally, nationally and internationally with novel and innovative discoveries. The Discipline of Women’s Health is largely based at the Royal - one of Australia’s foremost specialist hospitals for women and babies. UNSW's other teaching hospitals include the St George & Sutherland, Bankstown and Liverpool Hospitals. The Discipline also has close ties with the, a leading source of statistical and epidemiological research in reproductive medicine, pregnancy, childbirth, and the health and care of newborns.
For the appropriate candidate, there is also the possibility of an appointment unlinked to the ‘Head of Discipline’ role. For a Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility specialist, we also offer the ability to join the - the only Australian fertility centre of its kind. This centre combines comprehensive yet affordable fertility treatments and oncofertility services, with clinical research.
Clinical Academic
This is a Clinical Academic appointment created in the spirit of close collaboration between UNSW Medicine and the South-Eastern Sydney Local Health District (SESLHD) and the Royal. The appointee will report to the Head of School for academic matters and to the Director of Medical Services at the Royal, principally for everyday management and service matters.
The successful appointee will have:
Medical degree recognised in Australia and PhD (preferred) with a substantial background in clinical academic leadership. Existing or eligibility for medical registration in Australia and possession of Fellowship of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists Expertise in Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility or Gynaecological Oncology Extensive academic experience with proven excellence in leadership, medical education within the discipline of Women’s Health, with illustrable commitment to curricular development and implementation, and demonstrated experience in leading high quality, impactful research in women’s health, including design and execution of research projects and a track record of obtaining competitive or contract research funding. Proven experience in academic leadership and management Proven experience in stakeholder engagement in multiple settings including government, clinical and academic. Highly developed communication and interpersonal skills in a leadership role with a proven ability to create and lead highly functioning teams.Full details of the role can be found in the attached position description.
