Learnings – 

  • Assist in duties associated with horticultural maintenance of the shire’s parks, gardens, and recreational areas. Including mowing and edging.
  • Perform day-to-day tasks, including planting, pruning, weeding, and watering.
  • Assist in undertaking routine chemical spraying to maintain parks and gardens.
  • Assist in planting and maintaining appropriate vegetation.
  • Work collaboratively within the team to ensure all WHS practices are adhered to.
  • Working in an all-inclusive culture where all people are valued, and differences respected.
  • Display a positive attitude and a willingness to develop skills and knowledge relating to the Horticulture industry.

Traineeship Suitability Recommendations – 
To succeed in this apprenticeship, we recommend you have –

  • Good hand-eye coordination and the ability to use hand tools
  • An interest in the horticulture industry
  • A basic level of physical fitness
  • Language, Literacy and Numeracy (LLN) at a Year 10 high school level
  • Ability to work well as part of a team
  • Commitment to safety

Selection Criteria – 

  • Demonstrated interest and passion for the industry.
  • Year 10 High School Certificate or equivalent as a minimum.
  • Effective communication skills both oral and written.
  • Construction Industry Induction ticket (White Card) or ability to obtain.
  • Drivers’ licence is desirable, with the potential to operate a manual transmission.
  • Proven ability to work as part of a team.
  • Demonstrated ability to perform general labouring and maintenance duties.
  • Behaviour that positively displays values of respect, inclusivity, and safety.
  • Ability to undertake a Pre-Employment medical.
  • A commitment to the principles and practices of work health and safety.
  • Presents a positive image of the council to the public.
