As a Waste Education Officer, you’ll play a critical part in educating the community, driving programs to deliver our Towards a Circular Economy, Our Future Waste Strategy.

You’ll have the opportunity to develop and deliver creative and innovative waste initiatives to reduce contamination, increase resource recovery and drive waste avoidance.

You will lead an engaging and vibrant community-centered approach to the development and implementation of community waste education programsand initiatives, as well as build an innovative and independent work practice, cultivating positive working relationships with both internal and external stakeholders, and the community. You will be tasked to provide meaningful contribution to the implementation of Council’s Towards a circular economy, our future waste Strategy 2 – 5. You will also represent Council at events, forums, and stakeholder and industry meetings- all to deliver effective and engaging communication to educate, inspire and drive community action.

This is a permanent full-time position with an annual salary of $, - $, per annum + % superannuation.

This is a hybrid role where you will work both onsite and from home. When on site, you are based within our bright, modern and sustainable Tooronga Depot office which is located next to Tooronga Train station and walking distance to Tooronga Village Shopping Centre.

Desired Skills and Experience

To thrive within this role you will have:
• Proven experience in developing and delivering dynamic environmental education and behaviour change initiatives that are supported by data and research.
• Highly developed interpersonal and communicative skills, with the ability to write and present for a diverse range of audiences.
• Proven ability to build relationships and connect with a diverse and complex range of stakeholders.
• Practiced use of initiative and autonomy to innovate and explore continuous improvement opportunities as well as plan and deliver high quality projects.
• Demonstrated ability to perform well in a collaborative environment and positively contribute to the team.
• Tertiary qualifications or equivalent practical experience in sustainability, waste management, behaviour change, environmental management, or environmental education.
• Experience in Local Government is desirable but not essential. It is essential that you have a genuine passion for social issues and making a positive contribution to the outcomes for the wider community and have skills which turn this passion into effective outcomes.
