The Role & The Team

As a Senior Engineering Specialist, you will support the Operation and Maintenance of assets that are critical to the delivery of Air Navigation Services and Aviation Rescue Fire Fighting Services (ARFFS) to industry.

This is a unique opportunity to directly contribute to enhancing safety and service delivery to the aviation industry by being a core member of the team introducing the first Satellite Based Augmentation System (SBAS) in Australia. You will be working as the Project Technical Lead (PTL) on the Australian SBAS project – known as the Southern Positioning Augmentation Network (SouthPAN). PTL is a key role within any program and provides technical leadership and system engineering oversight to ensure that Airservices requirements are defined and met.

You will also have an opportunity to train and develop junior staff members to become future engineering leaders within the organisation.

  Senior Engineering Specialist

The Person

The successful candidate must have:

  • Completed a tertiary qualification in Engineering and be eligible for Registration as a Professional Engineer in relevant area of engineering in accordance with relevant legislation (RPEQ)
  • Significant experience with the application of Systems Engineering processes to unique and complex systems across multiple industries;
  • Experience with eliciting Functional and Support System requirements, specifically for Managed Services arrangements;
  • Experience with developing Scope of Works for Managed Services arrangements;
  • Previous experience delivering Systems Engineering and Technical Change Management training to staff;
  • Experience with engaging with a diverse range of internal and external stakeholders;
  • Demonstrated values-based behaviours, and ability to support organisational capability and culture;
  • Excellent oral and communications skills and the ability to work independently or in a team environment;
  • Previous experience with the application of aviation Safety Management Systems (desirable);
  • Sound understanding of the Civil Aviation Safety Regulations Part 171 (desirable)
  • Highly Desirable: Experience in designing, maintaining and supporting air traffic management systems, in particular:
    • Global Navigation Satellite Systems;
    • Data network systems;
    • Aeronautical communications, navigation and communication systems; and
    • Air traffic management.
