Job Description

Reporting into the General Manager - Health, Safety and Wellbeing, come and make your mark leading the efficient and effective management across for all aspects of our workers compensation and injury management programs.

You will be a motivated and practical thinker who can engage and partner with business leaders, be someone who challenges the status quo and investigates opportunities to influence change, along with the below:

  • Provide high level and strategic support that will engage senior operational management, HR and HSW personnel to drive improvements and innovation in claims and injury management
  • Manage 3rd party vendors and other stakeholders in all aspects of workers compensation and injury management service delivery
  • Support best practice injury and claims management of all injury and illness cases, developing strategies to handle specific cases in consultation with the appropriate parties
  • Support our business with advice regarding all aspects of fitness for work (both work and non-work related)
  • Ensure that all workers compensation insurance conditions are met and complete regulatory reports and returns as required within the timeframes set by various regions workers’ compensation authorities and insurance providers
  • Oversee governance including statutory reporting including annual wage declarations, wage audits
  • Regularly review the company’s arrangements for workers compensation against all options available to ensure cost effectiveness and manage/negotiate premium renewals on most economic terms
  • Provide effective and timely reporting to measure cost impacts on premiums, claims trends, benchmarking and premium forecasting

What your day will look like:

  • Oversee the workers compensation management process including early intervention, injury management, rehabilitation and return to work services to deliver successful best practice in return to work outcomes
  • Manage the 3rd party workers compensation provider to ensure SLA objectives are being met to further deliver successful best practice in return to work outcomes and claims reviews are occurring at minimum quarterly
  • Manage the annual worker’s compensation insurance program including overseeing the premium spend and negotiating premium renewals
  • Oversee governance including statutory reporting including the associated requirements of annual wage declarations, wage audits
  • Provide high level and strategic support to operational managers on managing workers compensation claims and claims costs
  • Support the management of employee personal injury and illness cases, developing strategies to handle specific cases in consultation with the appropriate parties
  • Provide effective and timely reporting measuring cost impacts on premiums, claims trends and benchmarking, premium forecasting
  • Providing senior management and business units with regular reporting on fitness for work and injury management statistics, providing commentary and insights on opportunities for improvement

Qualifications

About you

You’ll embody our values in the delivery of advice, guidance and support provided to our team leaders and team members. You will have a proven track record in driving significant improvements in workers compensation claims liabilities, processes and systems. You’ll demonstrate strong interpersonal skills and business acumen to effectively translate business needs to HSW imperatives and communicate these with employees at all levels. You will be a motivated and practical thinker who can engage and partner with business leaders and investigate opportunities to influence change and challenge the status quo.

You’ll possess:

  • Tertiary qualification/s in a health/injury management discipline (e.g. Occupational Therapy, Physiotherapy, Exercise Physiology, Nursing or Psychology) or related field experience
  • Deep technical knowledge and understanding of workers compensation and injury management laws, codes, standards and associated obligations
  • Experience in managing workers compensation and injury management across multi-site and multi-jurisdictional environments
  • Proven track record in driving significant improvements in workers compensation claims liabilities, processes and systems.
  • Demonstrated ability to liaise, advise and negotiate effectively with key stakeholders including management, staff, regulators and industrial organisations
  • Experience with 3rd party vendor management
  • Return to Work Certification in relevant jurisdictions
  • Experience in using SOLV-Injury is preferred
  • High level numerical and analytical skills, including well-structured written and communication skills
  • Proven ability to work autonomously, multi-task and prioritise work
