About the role:
 
To provide archival services for the Archdiocese of Brisbane Archives for the purpose of collecting, assessing, preserving, conserving and restoring where necessary, records of historical importance to the Archdiocese in accordance with Canon Law and best practice.
 
Work Requirements:
 
Permanent Part-Time role 3 days per week.

  • For training purposes, around 6 weeks training Monday – Wednesday, 8:30am-430pm.
  • After training, work hours will change to Wednesday – Friday, 8:30am-4:30pm

 
Key responsibilities:

  • Records Management Advisory: Provide guidance on records management and archiving responsibilities to Archdiocesan Agencies and Parishes.
  • Research Support: Conduct archival research and source investigation as requested by senior management.
  • Representational Duties: Represent the Archdiocese at Church gatherings and conferences related to archives.
  • Archival Maintenance: Maintain and develop Archdiocesan Archive collections, preserving and restoring records as needed.
  • Cataloguing and Access: Register and catalogue archived materials for efficient retrieval, facilitating access for internal and external users.
  • Historical Preservation: Collect and maintain historical records and significant museum items related to the Archdiocese.
  • User Assistance: Facilitate access to records and provide support to researchers.
  • Manual Cataloguing: Some work yet to be converted to electronic media

 
About you:
 

  • Tertiary qualifications in History or Theology preferable, not required
  • Librarian background would also be ideal
  • Have experience in the use of electronic documents records management systems.
  • Possess experience in appraisal, arrangement, description and sentencing of records.
  • Have knowledge of preservation and conservation principles.
  • Have experience in a similar role.
  • Demonstrate excellent time management and project management skills.
  • Possess a high level of computer literacy.
  • Operate autonomously and with initiative and flexibility.
  • Have excellent administrative skills including a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail.
