About Us :
The Abriculture Team is a gathering of intellectual minds with a shared vision and an understanding of the important role Tribal Ecologists play in modern ecology, sustainability and global food security. The Abriculture Team’s unique skillsets bring together tribal ecological knowledge (TEK) and western science in a culturally sensitive way. The Abriculture team identifies projects and organisations where tribal knowledge would benefit both land and people. Co-operatively our team share their knowledge, experience and education to unite contrasting cultural pathways and customs into a holistic land management model. Abriculture currently manages a number of fee for service contracts in biosecurity, cultural heritage, climate change ecology and biocultural management.
About You :
Position Summary :
The Yellow Crazy Ant Field Coordinator will manage all aspects of the Yellow Crazy Ant Eradication Program, coordinating the team out in the field, manage all the H&S aspects of the job, communicate with project partners and Abriculture managers, maintain the vehicles and equipment, prepare the work schedules and oversee the training of new recruits.

Key Requirements :
Essential:
- Minimum Certificate III in conservation and land management, or a Bachelors in equivalent with an additional 3-5 years of practical skills.
- Desirable to have Training and Employment qualification or willing to get one
- You will be required to develop your practical skills while on duty by closely following the instructions of management. This may include formal training, attending workshops/forums and cultural teaching.
- Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander people are encouraged to apply
- Current motor vehicle drivers licence
- Experience working on country in a similar position for 3-5 years.
- Knowledge, understanding and respect for the traditions, land, and its inhabitants
- Proven experience leading a team of at least 4 rangers, including mentoring junior staff and improving professional outcomes of Indigenous Rangers
- Proven experience maintaining the WHS requirements
- Proven experience maintaining inventory and maintaining equipment/tools
- Proven experience in grant writing, project management and budget management
- Proven experience in leading a team of workers to complete tasks in the required time frame.
- Experience presenting information to a group of peers, confident in their skills and knowledge. You will be required to be a strong front for the Ranger Team.
- Media skills would be advantageous as you will be required to be present as a representative of the Abriculture Rangers.
- Proven experience in biosecurity, weed and pest management
- Proven experience in seed collection and propagation.
- Proven experience in plant nursery maintenance and management.
Job Responsibility :
· In conjunction with CEO, assist in developing and implementing strategic business plans to achieve organisational goals.
· Identification of potential opportunities for innovation and improving the efficiency and effectiveness of operations.
· Ensure the completion and submission of timesheets, invoices, etc. to the Financial Officer in a timely manner.
· Develop and manage budgets for delegated projects.
· Negotiate contracts for Ranger services.
· Assist in identifying and securing grant funding in collaboration with the CEO.
· Manage the insurance and registration of vehicles, trailers, boats, etc.
· Procurement of equipment and resources, purchases relating to Ranger projects.
· High standard of reporting, communication, and advice to internal and external stakeholders.
· Network, and develop a rapport with partners and stakeholders.
· Establish a reputation for reliance and trust across the spectrum of stakeholders, including management, peers, fellow staff, and the public.
· Understand, interpret, administer, and comply with relevant legislation and policies applicable to the functions within an Indigenous Ranger unit (e.g. animal management, local laws, pest management).
· Know the organisation's Cultural heritage and Keeping Place procedures in relation to the recording and storing of artefacts and knowledge.
· Comply with all safe work procedures relating to machinery and tools and labelling and storage of hazardous substances as required by the Work Health and Safety Act 2011 and National Codes of Practice.
· Adhere to the WH&S requirements on sites, such as the Cairns Regional Councils depot or the WTMA shed.
· Always report injuries, near misses, illness, damage to equipment, potential hazards, etc to a supervisor/manager.
· Manage all staff and volunteers to minimise/eliminate risk.
· Ensure the completion of Risk Assessments for Ranger activities and projects.
· Manage the Rangers, ranger projects, and achieve the outcomes in the Management Plan.
· Supervise, motivate, develop, and support work teams and individual employees within the unit to achieve ranger and organisational goals.
· Identify Ranger needs and implements solutions, including training and legal certifications.
· Attend/participate in job-related conferences & training resulting in some travelling & overnight stays.
· Maintain skills in various computer software programs applied to specific tasks; downloading data, perform related duties as assigned. For e.g. Fulcrum, Deputy, WhatsApp, GPA download software.
