Applications are now open for an exciting role at the new Head to Health Coffs Harbour. The team is looking for an enthusiastic Peer Worker to join the team in either a full time or part time capacity. As a Peer Worker at Head to Health you will play a key role in engaging with clients and attending to their practical needs through case work and advocacy.

As a Peer Worker no two days will be the same as in this role be using your own story of recovery from mental health concerns to instil confidence and hope in others about their journey of recovery.

Responsibilities include:

  • Engage with clients from diverse backgrounds, including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community, CALD and LGBTQIA+ people, as well as those at risk of suicide or homelessness, to establish a connection with Head to Health.
  • Supporting clients with structured activity such as linking with physical activity, housing, coordinating care with other services.
  • Planning, partnering, and delivering community events, co-facilitating group programs with other members of the multidisciplinary team and representing Coffs Harbour Head to Health at community events and local network meetings.
  • Maintaining a database of local services and group programs. Making warm referrals in consultation with multidisciplinary team.

About you:

Are you self-motivated, adaptable, and well-connected with local support services, eager to use your personal recovery journey to inspire others? Do you have experience in community development, group facilitation, or awareness-raising? If so, you might be the perfect fit for our team.

We are also looking for:

  • Completed Cert IV in Peer Work for Mental Health or willing to work towards this.
  • Ability to interact well with all types of people (including vulnerable people), families and health professionals across disciplines and experience working with minority groups of people including Indigenous, LGTBQIA+ and CALD communities
  • Excellent computing and keyboard skills and proven experience with Microsoft Office suite.
  • Capacity to advocate, address barriers and engage flexibility with people
  • Knowledge of the mental health system, government policy and legislation, and professional standards and codes of ethics as they pertain to working with people and their mental health.
