About the role

The role of the Mentor is to work closely with a caseload of 'at-risk' Australian Apprentices, maintaining a robust mentoring programme to identify & support Australian Apprentices at high risk of non-completion due to both vocational & non-vocational reasons.

This is initially a fixed term role to 30/06/2024 in line with the AASN contract, with potential to be ongoing.

The Field Mentor's responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Provision of psychosocial allied health supports and triage connection to local services
  • Develop rapport and trust with Australian Apprentices by regularly communicating through phone and visual electronic means
  • Work with Australian Apprentices and their employers to develop strategies to reduce or eliminate barriers to continued employment and assist the Australian Apprentice to remain engaged
  • Monitor progress of training and provide relevant finance, relationship, communication, accommodation, health and wellbeing support, providing referral to external providers where necessary
  • Coach employers in how to conduct performance-related counselling of apprentices as required
  • Be an effective conduit between Mas National staff and all relevant staff at the employer's workplace to ensure that efficient and proactive communication occurs at all times
  • Liaising with external agencies such as state-based support services, Registered Training Organisations etc to address issues and ensure challenges are dealt with properly
  • Develop a network of specialist services for apprentices deemed at risk and refer to those services where necessary, completing all tasks with a focus on keeping the client in employment or training
  • Work collaboratively with staff from other sections of Mas to create a holistic service for clients
  • Completing detailed notes utilising Ready Apprentice and ADMS databases

About you

To succeed in this role, you will have:

  • Qualifications in allied health professions, with a degree or graduate diploma relevant to the services you deliver in either allied health services, psychology or behavioural sciences OR social work
  • Experience working with Australian Apprenticeships
  • Proven experience in supporting clients through crisis
  • Demonstrated ability to perform mediation and apply counselling theory
  • Experience in managing electronic client records with strong attention to detail
  • Proven ability to listen objectively and provide advice free of bias
  • Ability to clearly articulate instructions and advice in high stress situations
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to build relationships at all levels
  • Capacity to meet set targets/KPI's
  • Ability to use initiative, prioritise and manage time efficiently
  • Demonstrated accurate data entry skills
  • Ability to problem solve and take ownership of client issues to find solutions and work with internal and external stakeholders to resolve them
  • Proven ability to work well autonomously or in a team environment
  • Demonstrated proficiency in the use of Databases and Microsoft office software
