About the role

We are extremely excited to announce that we are inviting applications for a Projects Engineer role to be based in our Kurri Kurri office with a hybrid working setup.  

This role will assist managing the design and operational support requirements for Australia Pacific (AusPac) region, reporting to the Senior Engineer - Mechanical. The incumbent, as part of the Orica Assets and Engineering team, fulfills a critical technical support role in the business, providing expert mechanical engineering design services and advice to the AusPac Region.

This includes mechanical governance duties and supporting the Responsible Engineers (RE) application of Group Standards and relevant regulatory standards, in conjunction with advice and input on design development and equipment construction for a variety of mobile equipment, delivery systems and fixed plant installations used by Orica in the AusPac region in accordance with time and cost constraints.

The incumbent would develop in the role and progress towards a Responsible Engineer appointment following the requisite experience and Orica Global RE training process.
 

What you will be doing

The key accountabilities of this Projects Engineer role include ensuring safety and leadership, providing mechanical engineering support for capital projects and assets, complying with regulatory and statutory standards, engaging design resources, improving business processes, supporting regional engineering and capital expenditures, managing cost centers, and overseeing the commissioning and handover of projects and assets.

The Projects Engineer also shares an SH&E role is pivotal in ensuring safety and health standards are upheld throughout the organization. It involves leading by example to mitigate safety hazards, providing mechanical engineering advice on safety and regulations, ensuring designs comply with safety standards, participating in design reviews and hazard studies, and conducting regular performance audits.

Commercial ownership focuses on compliance with statutory and corporate standards, documenting design requests, maximizing the use of existing designs for standardization, preparing project estimates, managing design resources efficiently, and improving customer outcomes by considering their perspectives.

This role also emphasizes the importance of sharing knowledge across the engineering group, managing relationships for effective equipment design solutions, and providing technical expertise for equipment design and installation. It includes evaluating protection systems for safety compliance, assisting in incident investigations, and developing engineering standards for various applications.
 

What you will bring

  • Registered Professional Engineer of Queensland (RPEQ) preferred not mandatory – however willing to work toward RPEQ accreditation.
  • At least 5 years in professional engineering.
  • Experience in project management and managing small teams.
  • Degree qualified in Mechanical Engineering.
  • Knowledge of statutory requirements relating to Mechanical Engineering and the commercial explosives industry
  • Knowledge of Engineering theory and practice covering all engineering disciplines including project management
  • A practical understanding of our depot and manufacturing operations
  • An understanding of the Group’s objectives, and the Project & Engineering’s part in those
  • The incumbent will be highly creative and innovative
