The Senior Health, Safety and Wellbeing Officer provides specialist guidance, support and assistance to the Waste & Recycling Program in areas of Workplace Health and Safety, including as a minimum the following:

Development and implementation of Workplace Health, Safety & Wellbeing programs and initiatives Hazard & risk management, Incident investigation & reporting, Identifying emerging health and safety issues Statutory compliance & Audits Training and induction Attendance at Branch Management Team, Toolbox Meetings, W&R Workplace Health & Safety Committee meetings and Forums

Experience and requirements

Formal qualification for Lead Auditor in WHS Management Systems with demonstrated experience developing and implementing integrated health and safety systems Bachelor’s Degree or Advanced Diploma in Work Health & Safety, or a related relevant field and/or significant experience in a similar role with substantial industry experience – waste and resource recovery operations experience desirable but not essential. Certificate IV Training and Assessment with significant experience in the development and delivery of safety related training ICAM, Tap Root or similar lead investigator training skills and abilities Possess detailed knowledge and application of current Work Health & Safety and Worker's Compensation legislation, regulations, codes, standards, and guidelines Have well-developed knowledge of Work Health & Safety management and compliance requirements across a broad range of operational contexts and industry sectors in medium to large, complex organisations Have sound working knowledge and hands-on experience leading accident/incident investigations, safety audits, risk assessments, policy development, systems management and delivering strategic/operational Health and Safety objectives and actions Demonstrate a high level of interpersonal and communication skills to build and maintain positive working relationships, negotiate and influence, resolve conflict and disputes, and provide advice to internal and external stakeholders, including presentations to management and staff Be able to demonstrate high-level ability to develop clear and concise written communications including business, investigative and audit reports and proposals Have ability to demonstrate competency in the use of the Microsoft suite of software (Word, Excel, Project and Outlook) and other software such as document management systems Extensive demonstrated work experience as a safety professional in local government, waste and recycling, transport, construction, heavy industry, or mining sectors is highly desirable
