This allows our inmates/transferees to feel heard, appreciated and treated with the utmost respect and in a culturally appropriate way. Our aim is to improve relationships and reduce stressors for inmates/transferees, so they feel cared for.

We are seeking a Safety & Wellbeing Lead to join our team based in our Brisbane (Springfield) Office.

**About the Role**

In your role as Safety & Wellbeing Lead you will be responsible for providing expert advice to leaders and their teams to ensure the understanding of workplace health and safety laws, workers compensation legislation and WHS duties responsibilities and obligations. You will be the primary WHS support to the Nauru Regional Processing Centre.

**Key Responsibilities**:

- engage and inspire your direct reports, providing ongoing mentorship, guidance, and support for their growth and development
- develop and provide strategic direction, advice and assistance on WHS policies, operational standards, guidelines and planning in consultation with Divisions to embed and promote a safety and health conscious culture
- drive the development of systems, standards and guidelines on hazard and risk management, particularly complex, high risk issues that existed at an operational level
- lead the development and implementation of strategies for enabling a high performing safety culture aimed at achieving zero harm in the workplace
- support the return to work of employees that have suffered a workplace injury in accordance with current Australian workplace legislation
- WHS representative and stakeholders by driving monthly committee meetings
- conduct formal investigations into WHS incidents and hazards
- support the assurance framework in line with relevant ISO standards
- provide accurate and timely reports to the senior managers and Executive, measuring performance against key targets including incident trends, injury reduction and education
- attend regular training and refresher sessions to maintain skills and qualifications.

**To be successful in this role you will have**:

- tertiary qualifications in workplace health and safety, or related (highly desirable)
- formal qualifications in Workers Compensation Accredited ICAM Lead Investigator or Advanced Investigation Course completion (desired)
- experience leading a workplace health and safety function, including implementation of programs and policies to ensure legislative compliance and the development of a safety culture
- conceptual, analytical, and strategic problem-solving skills with the ability to lead the development and management of workplace health and safety strategies and frameworks
- ability to consult to understand the business imperative and provides meaningful and tailored workplace health and safety advice and services to the business
- demonstrated leadership ability to work collaboratively and harness the contribution of others by encouraging and motivating people
- demonstrated high level verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills
- ability to visit and work within a correctional or regional processing centre
- ability to travel both interstate and overseas as and when required to meet the needs of the business
- proven right to work in Australia
- willingness to undertake a National Criminal History Check
- a current Working with Children Card
- a current First Aid Certificate
- evidence that you are vaccinated against COVID-19 (double vaccinated) plus one booster with a vaccine recognised in Australia.
