: The Youth Justice and Adolescent Services (YJAS) is a Branch with a newly expanded remit. Previously only responsible for custodial youth justice services, the YJAS is undertaking significant policy and service design reform work including to operationalise the ‘Raising the Minimum Age of Criminal Responsibility’ reform and build new service relationships, both within the ACT Government and the community sector.YJAS is seeking dedicated and qualified professionals to join our team as a Practitioners. We are currently recruiting specifically to the following teams:
Youth Justice Community Services (YJC) – Provides case management and supervision for young people subject to custodial and community-based orders. This includes direct supervision of court orders and providing rehabilitative and therapeutic supports and supporting young people exiting from custody. The primary focus of the team is to reduce the risk of severity and frequency of recidivism and address the needs of young people involved in the criminal justice system.As a Youth Justice Practitioner, you will be responsible for the development and implementation of comprehensive case management strategies, working in close collaboration with multidisciplinary teams and community stakeholders. Your role will be critical in supporting the rehabilitation, reintegration, and positive development of young people in contact with the justice system.
Intensive Adolescent Services (IAS) - Specialising in high-risk youth, this team offers tailored interventions and support plans that address complex challenges. Their approach often includes multi-disciplinary support, crisis intervention, and close collaboration with community stakeholder professionals to address risk factors to prevent, divert and transition from statutory involvement.We are looking for individuals with a strong background in social work, psychology, criminology, law, social science, or related disciplines, and who demonstrate a commitment to evidence-based practices and young people within our community. The successful candidate will possess strong engagement, communication, and problem-solving skills, as well as an understanding of the youth justice system.
