About the role…

The Senior DevOps Engineer role sits within the Information Office, whose focus is the enablement and availability of technologies for the business and its customers. Within this division the role sits in the Banking and Engineering business unit which is responsible for delivery and support of the banks digital and payment systems.

They are technically skilled, forward thinking, problem solvers who have a passion for automation and process improvement. They are experts in their respective fields and take great pride in delivering high quality technical solutions, whilst balancing operational and project deliveries. The critical nature of their roles requires them to participate in a 24x7 on call roster.

You are a leader with strong interpersonal and team building skills, along with well developed negotiation skills and vendor management skills. You are balanced between business and technical focus with an eye for continual systems and process improvements. You’re able to plan, lead and control system solutions, development, change management and releases. You are a strategic thinker capable of contributing valuably to planning sessions and activities. You work after hours for releases and as part of a 24x7 on-call roster including acting as an escalation point. You are passionate about all forms of technology with a focus on automation and driving system improvements and stability.

About you…

10+ years in IT with a background in application support, cloud systems engineering, systems administration and/or technical project delivery Extensive experience in Cloud native technologies such as (s3, ec2, route53, codecommit, code pipelines etc) Experience in supporting application environments running in either Cloud Native technologies, and On-Premise technologies such as VMware. Experience with containerisation, including container management platforms, such as Openshift or Fargate. History of supporting public facing critical systems servicing customers – Ideally digital and payments platforms Understanding of databases concepts underpinning business critical applications System change and release management experience in a change controlled environment Experience with automation of build and deployment processes and orchestration using scripting languages (bash, PowerShell, groovy, scepte) Comfortable in a mixed operating system environment – Windows / Linux (Redhat) Strong understanding of the CI/CD pipeline and its uses in large scale environments Solid understanding of all areas of technology including infrastructure, networking, storage, integration, security, applications, and software development Experience in Service management/ Incident management of integrated operational systems Experience working with multiple stakeholders – internal and external partners Good insight of Risk identification, Risk mitigation and management Good knowledge of Risk in sight and Risk in change with skill to mitigate or manage Insight of Banking and Finance sector regulations and compliances Experience providing technical leadership for engineers in-house or from partner teams

Essential

Degree qualifications in Information Technology or similar, or equivalent experience

Desirable

Technology Industry Certifications (RHEL, Microsoft, AWS etc)
