Based in either our Albany or Katanning office and reporting to the Editor - Albany Advertiser, this is a fantastic opportunity for a hard-working journalist to join the team that produces one of WA’s oldest and proudest newspapers. Critical to the role are strong writing and communication skills, a nose for news, and a good work ethic. The successful applicant must be highly motivated and passionate about journalism. The ideal candidate will have tertiary qualifications in journalism or a similar field. Experience as a working journalist is preferred, but not essential.

About the role

  • Gathering and writing original news stories for publication in print and online platforms
  • Developing positive relationships with key people and organisations
  • Breaking news stories and creating engaging content
  • Interviewing and photographing subjects confidently and professionally
  • Liaising with the Great Southern editor regarding story development
  • Representing the company in a professional and courteous manner

About You

  • A passion for community journalism, strong work ethic and self-motivation
  • Have an eagle-eye for detail and excellent copywriting skills
  • The ability to work under high pressure and be flexible with work hours;
  • Good interviewing, communication and writing skills;
  • A sense of urgency and focus on deadlines; and
  • A valid driver’s licence.
