About the position 
We are seeking an experienced obstetrician and gynaecologist, ideally with significant medical school experience, to be Discipline Lead for Women’s Health. Discipline Leads play a key role in NewMed’s curriculum development, developing curriculum for the discipline and coordinating with other staff   to integrate across the program. Teaching cannot start before 2026. 
The NewMed head office is in Brisbane CBD: these well-equipped premises are within 200m of Central Station. It is not necessary to reside in Queensland. Just as the students will be distributed, the current faculty are in all Eastern States and SA. Regular workshops have brought the team together.

MD Program Design
This is a 4 year graduate program with selection weighted to regional, rural, healthcare and First Nations people. It includes body systems in the first two years, with dedicated clinical teaching across years 3-4; the final year is preparation for internship. Longitudinal Streams cover the domains of medical practice including leadership, professionalism, communication and clinical skills. There is a well-defined and integrated First Nations curriculum. Bespoke IT and dedicated faculty will deliver the program. Assessment is ‘non-graded’ (pass/fail), being programmatic with one mid-program OSCE and applied clinical knowledge examinations in years 3-4. Progress panels will monitor student performance and decide on end-of-year progression.

Key responsibilities 
•    You would design the relevant curriculum and create resources with assistance, so that learning for this important area of medical practice is well facilitated. The discipline will have related body system module(s) to be reviewed and integrated. There are comprehensive IT resources.
•    You will have some ability to design a program of teaching/learning for generalist graduates, capable of working as interns in the new prevocational framework. Administrative support and senior leadership oversight will be provided.
•    The formal program for your discipline will align with the students’ clinical experience is in general practice from one half-day/week in year 1 to 3 days/week in year 3. Dedicated small group teaching in year 3 should develop depth of clinical learning, expanded further with the discipline hospital term in year 4. We would seek your input as to the learning outcomes appropriate to the discipline.
•    Clinical assessment includes WBAs, term reports, case-based discussions, miniCEXs, EPAs and module related examinations. You will have well-evidenced views on the place of WBAs.
•    There are applied knowledge MCQ examinations at the end of year 3 and middle of year 4. These examinations will be blueprinted to the learning outcomes and curriculum. With the Assessment Lead, you will lead this area making use of a proper assessment management system as well as WBA/portfolio system. These assessment systems will have dedicated trained staff.
•    This position will allow NewMed to achieve its graduate outcomes for your discipline, directly aligned to those of the AMC, such that NewMed MD graduates excel in the clinical workplace.

Required qualifications and experience 

•    Fellowship of RANZCOG
•    Experience in teaching and supervising medical students and junior doctors.
•    Current or recent medical school appointment.
•    Familiarity with AMC Standards for Primary Medical Programs and Graduate Outcomes, extending to concepts of outcomes-based medical education, supervised clinical experiences and curriculum.

Desired qualifications and experience 
•    Post graduate qualification in medical or higher education.
•    Evidence of medical education involvement such as membership of / attendance at ANZAHPE, or AMEE, or ICRE (Canada).
•    Current or recent role at the College, such as trainee supervisor, course faculty or leadership role in medical education.
•    Publications related to teaching, learning, assessment and professionalism in medical education.
