About the job

  • The role requires experience delivering engineering scope through the lifecycle of phases from order of magnitude, preliminary engineering, definitive engineering, detailed design through to execution depending on the client funding, scope and requirements.
  • The successful candidate is expected to be able to lead, deliver design and peer review discipline deliverables in line with their technical strengths. 
  • Proven discipline team lead experience on brownfield and expansion projects is required; this is a dual role as team lead and lead/engineer on projects being delivered in the portfolio.  

The role responsibilities include:

  • Deliver discipline specific engineering services that meet applicable statutory and regulatory requirements.  
  • Undertake and/or support engineering design and technical verification of discipline project deliverables by others, responsible for safe and sustainable design.
  • Proactively seek an understanding of the safety hazards and risks associated with the asset lifecycle of the designed product, plant or structure, considers Safety in Design risks throughout the project lifecycle, be responsible for action and close out where relevant.
  • Perform discipline specific engineering services 
  • Prepare/and or review engineering estimates for the electrical discipline in response to requests for quotation
  • Communicate effectively and regularly with the project stakeholders/team including the Lead Discipline Engineer (where not lead themselves), Workshare team and Project Engineer/Manager on design progress, budget, technical matters, quality and resource planning.
  • Establish and maintain good working relationships within the electrical discipline team, the workshare team, with clients and other stakeholders, provide technical direction and advice to the discipline, discipline team and project teams as required by position.  
  • Identify issues and problems, develop appropriate and innovative solutions; and ask for assistance if required.


What you’ll have

  • An Australian recognised Bachelor qualification in Electrical or Power Engineering, Postgraduate qualifications in the relevant discipline, management, project management or supervisory qualifications or equivalent.
  • Relevant years brownfield sustaining capital projects in the mining industry (essential)
  • Chartered Professional Engineer (CPEng) status, Active Functional Safety TUV Certification and Active Hazardous Area Certification would be beneficial.
  • Experience across all phases of engineering projects from feasibility/conceptual studies through to detailed design and execution (essential).
  • Excellent understanding and experience in:
    • Brownfield interfaces.
    • HV and LV systems, AC and DC systems.
    • Electrical calculations required for design, Earthing, arc flash and lightning studies and design.
    • Power distribution, Power system studies (inc. load flow, fault level voltage and motor starting analysis) and protection coordination.
    • Creation of design drawings such as SLDs, schematics, terminations, schedules, layouts.
    • Site experience such as scoping solutions, condition assessments, construction and commissioning.
    • Very good understanding of constructability, maintainability and operability aspects, Preparing ITPs, MTOs, datasheets, specifications, construction methodologies, philosophy documents, procurement and construction scope of works.
    • Equipment inspections, witnessing FATs, SATs.
    • Input into electrical estimates and execution schedules for FID.
    • Control system interfacing and instrumentation, Shutdown planning.
