A bit about us
We are an independent, registered charity providing front line support to young people and people experiencing homelessness to open pathways out of poverty and homelessness - breaking the cycle of disadvantage. Our focus is on respect, client-centred care, and harm prevention so people can lead longer lives, have improved health, meaningful employment, and a greater sense of belonging, safety, and security through our holistic model of care.

- Over 8,000 people accessed our services
- Welcomed 16,431 visits to The Living Room
- 80% of the young people we supported landed sustainable employment or education outcomes
- More than 150,000 coffees were sold through our social enterprise cafes with $73K profit re-directed into homelessness and youth services
- Experienced 130,000+ contacts through our harm minimisation program
- Awarded ‘Great Place to Work’ 2022 and 2023
- Providing a safe and inclusive workplace as 88% of our 2024 workforce identifying to have lived or living experience

A bit about the role
The In-Work Mentor plays a critical role in ensuring that post-placement support is provided to young people and employers in an efficient, timely manner, and to a high-quality standard, all in alignment with the Transition to Work Service Delivery model. The role is pivotal in maintaining continuous engagement between the young person and their workplace, addressing any challenges or barriers to sustained employment, and fostering a supportive relationship between both parties.
The In-Work Mentor is not only responsible for offering practical solutions to employment-related issues but also for empowering young people with the skills, confidence, and resilience needed to thrive in their roles. By tailoring support to the specific needs of each individual and employer, the mentor helps to build strong foundations for long-term success. This includes liaising with employers to facilitate open communication, ensuring any workplace challenges are addressed early, and developing action plans to improve retention and performance.
The ultimate focus of the In-Work Mentor is on creating a pathway for sustainable employment, where both young people and employers benefit from positive, ongoing outcomes that go beyond initial placement.
Key requirements for this role:
- Certificate IV in Mental Health, Youth Work, Community Services, Career Development
- Proven experience in job seeker service delivery and mentoring
- Has experience in creating customised employment opportunities and diversity programs
- Strong administration skills with competency in all Microsoft Office applications
- Driver’s License
- Preferred but not required, Previous experience or knowledge of employment service claims
