Directions Health Services is an innovative non-profit organisation that has been providing specialist alcohol and other drug (AOD) and co-occurring services in the ACT and NSW for more than 40 years. Today we at Directions offer a comprehensive suite of holistic AOD, mental health and primary health services that aim to reduce harms experienced by individuals, families and communities and improve overall health and wellbeing.

Moruya Medicare Mental Health Centre is a collaboration between Directions, Grand Pacific Health, Katungul Aboriginal Corporation and The Family Place. As a Mental Health & AOD Clinician, you will work closely with these partners to provide a safe and welcoming service for adults experiencing challenges with their mental health and wellbeing, drug and alcohol use and other co-occurring issues, or who need help finding the right mental health service. Head to Health takes a holistic and collaborative approach to care that focuses on clients' social, physical, and emotional needs. Head to Health's multidisciplinary mental health team provides immediate, short to medium-term support to clients.

About the position

The position is a fixed term, part-time contract with hours negotiable for the right applicant .

As an AOD & Mental Health Clinician at Moruya Medicare Mental Health Centre, you will provide high quality, evidence-based treatment, information, and support to people needing mental health and AOD support in a community setting.

Responsibilities

  • Provide integrated and coordinated care, utilising the stepped model of care and a 'no wrong door' approach to meet clients' wholistic needs

  • Provide assessment, case management, counselling, opioid dependence support, referral, harm minimisation education, group facilitation services and other support services to support clients and their family/friends to improve mental health and wellbeing outcomes and reduce harm associated with drug and alcohol use

  • Provide culturally responsive services to clients, families and communities impacted by mental health and substance use

  • Develop collaborative working relationships with Local Health District Mental Health and Drug and Alcohol Service, other health and community service, key stakeholders, and other Directions programs

  • Work with colleagues and key stakeholders to support the provision of withdrawal services, and client access to primary health care, mental health intervention and residential treatment, according to client needs and goals.

  • Participate in ongoing quality improvement and safety framework

  • Undertake routine outcomes measurement in collaboration with clients

  • Ensure all documentation and data is accurate, up to date and meets professional standards, including client case notes, reports, other written communication, and outcome measures

  • Engage in training, professional development, line management, and performance reviews to develop professional skills

  • Maintain professional standards in relation to service delivery and confidentiality

  • Work in accordance with Directions' health and safety guidelines

  • Participate in staff meetings, supervision, and shared care meetings

What we would like you to have

  • Qualification in Counselling/Social Work/Psychology/Nursing/another relevant field

  • Cert IV in Alcohol and Other Drug Work and Mental Health, or willingness to obtain

  • Experience in health and community services working with people with complex, co-occurring needs

  • Preferable: clinical registration with relevant peak body e.g. AASW, APS, PACFA, ACA

  • Well-developed understanding of the impact of mental health, alcohol and other drug use and the associated issues this client group may experience

  • Good working knowledge of contemporary mental health care and evidence-based treatment for AOD and co-occurring issues.

  • Strong understanding of harm minimisation, case management and support strategies

  • An ability to adapt practice to meet the needs of people from diverse backgrounds

  • Strong understanding of the social determinants of health

  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to support people when presenting in distress and collaborate with other programs, partners, and external agencies

  • Ability to use Client Information Management system and associated software

  • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of the issues affecting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities and ability to work competently in a cross-cultural environment

  • A well organised, self-motivated, and proactive approach to work

  • Thorough understanding of the importance of personal and professional boundaries, ethical behaviour, policies, and procedures

All appointments will be conditional upon having suitable rights to work in Australia, a Working with Children Check, current First Aid and CPR certification and a satisfactory National Police Check.
