Executive Director, Governance, Risk & Assurance

We are seeking a strategic and influential leader with a passion for governance and risk management. Ongoing opportunity in the Policy, Strategy and Governance Division, based in Sydney, with in-office presence required. Flexible working arrangements are available. Salary package starting from $297,000 per annum to commensurate with experience.

About the Role

As a key member of the senior leadership team, you will shape the strategic direction of governance and risk functions, ensuring alignment with government policies and organisational priorities. You will also champion a culture of integrity, accountability, and continuous improvement, ensuring the department operates with transparency and efficiency. This is a high-impact role where your expertise will drive decision-making, strengthen risk frameworks, and safeguard the organisation's reputation.

Role Responsibilities

In this role, you will:

  • Develop and implement governance, risk, and assurance frameworks to ensure compliance with legislative and policy requirements.
  • Provide expert strategic advice to executive leadership, governance bodies, and key stakeholders on complex governance and risk matters.
  • Lead and oversee key functions, including enterprise risk management, privacy, internal audit, fraud prevention, business continuity, and corporate compliance.
  • Establish systems and processes that proactively identify and mitigate risks while enhancing organisational resilience.
  • Maintain strong relationships with government agencies, regulators, and industry bodies to ensure alignment with broader governance and compliance standards.
