About BADAC

Members of the Ballarat and district Aboriginal community established the Ballarat and District Aboriginal Co-operative (BADAC) in 1979. BADAC delivers a comprehensive range of health, social, welfare and community development programs to local Aboriginal people. Since 1979, the organisation has grown considerably to a staff of 200 delivering a wide range of services, underpinned by Social Inclusion principles, which incorporate the following programs:

  • Health and Home Care

  • Social and Emotional Well-being

  • Family Support

  • Care Services

  • Family Violence and Justice

  • Early Years and Youth

BADAC is the Aboriginal Community-Controlled Organisation (ACCO) for the Ballarat and district area, covering 4 local government areas (LGAs). Our services are open to all members of the public, with priority given to our members. BADAC is focused on prevention and early intervention, always with a client-centred approach, to ensure that our clients are personally engaging in the development and nurturing of their own futures.

The Program

Connected Beginnings

Connected Beginnings draws upon the strength and knowledge of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Communities. The aim is to increase Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children's and family's engagement with health and early childhood education and care. It improves access to existing early childhood, maternal and child health, and family support services so children are safe, healthy and ready to thrive at school and in the school community by the age of 5.

The Role – Administration and Support Officer - 15 Hours per week

The role of Administration and Support within the Connected Beginnings Program is to promote and support the team with Administration. The role is an integral part of the Connected Beginnings team. Working in partnership with a variety of stakeholders, external and internal programs and agencies. Provide professional and Culturally safe administration support for the team and most importantly working with our Aboriginal community to ascertain and meet their needs.

Key Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Establish and maintain close working relationships and networks with Aboriginal organisations as key partners to support the implementation and success of the programs.

  • Work with community members, families and delivery agencies to meet the needs of community determined by and in relation to the outcomes of the community and governance group.

  • Promote and support the governance structure and group with Administration tasks.

  • Regular, multi stream, effective communication with families, stakeholder's and all involved with programs.

  • Assist with proficient and professional collection of data and impact stories to provide the team in order to measure progress of programs and engagement.

  • Attend and contribute to regular internal meetings, supervision and any PD opportunities.

  • General administration tasks to support the program including minute taking, newsletters, emails, phone calls, record keeping and other tasks required by the programs and as directed by the General Manager and Co-ordinator.

  • Support team with events, advertising, combating barriers, engaging community and stakeholders

  • Follow any other reasonable requests by the Program Co Ordinator.

Key Selection Criteria:

  • Demonstrated experience in fostering partnerships with Aboriginal health organisations, early childhood and family service providers to best meet the needs of children and families in our community.

  • An ability to demonstrate high level and comprehensive understanding of Aboriginal issues, knowledge and Culture, and proven ability to apply this in practice, including supporting and influencing other services in culturally safe practice.

  • Knowledge of programs and services that support culturally appropriate practice.

  • Proficient, professional administration skills in data recording, reporting and record keeping.

  • Professional and Culturally Safe representation as first point of contact.
