**Position Information**:
Caves Beach Public School is located in the East Lake Macquarie area of Newcastle. It is situated in a beautiful bush-land setting close to Caves Beach. The school enjoys spacious and attractive grounds and shares borders with Swansea High School. Our school delivers excellent academic, sporting, creative and performing arts programs that ensure all students receive high quality teaching and learning activities in a safe and secure environment.
Our school enrollment is approximately 382 students with 268 families. Within this, there are 33 students from 19 families identifying as Aboriginal. The school FOEI (Family Occupation and Employment Index) is currently 74 determining our needs based funding.
We are committed to the Values of Public Education and share this commitment with our families and whole school community. Our school values guide student wellbeing and are explicitly taught in classrooms. Values education underpins every area of school life.
Caves Beach Public School is an active member of the supportive Galgabba Community of Schools (CoS) who work collaboratively and responsively to ensure every teacher, every student, every leader improves every year.
Our Support Unit is newly established this year and consists of 2 x Multi - Categorical classes and 1 x Emotionally Disturbance class.
**Selection Criteria**:
In addition to the general selection criteria,
1. Approval to teach Special Education and/or demonstrated experience and expertise in leading the collaborative delivery of quality, personalised teaching and learning programs to support students with autism, intellectual disability and complex communication needs that can impact on behaviour and learning engagement.
2. Demonstrated capacity to lead a support unit, effectively managing the dual role of an Assistant Principal and exemplary classroom teacher, with the proven ability to strengthen collaborative practice within a support unit team, that builds staff capabilities to ensure a cohesive, effective team to enhance student learning and wellbeing outcomes.
3. Visible leader with the capability to work as part of the school leadership team to foster a school-wide culture and practice of inclusion and equity and drive continuous improvement as part of a dynamic leadership team with an understanding of the curriculum reforms and new policy implementation requirements.
**General Selection Criteria**:
1. Successful teaching experience with capacity to initiate improvement in teaching, learning and classroom practice
2. Knowledge of curriculum, assessment and student welfare with the ability to lead and design quality, inclusive teaching and learning programs
3. Educational leadership skills to build the capacity and manage the performance of individuals and teams
4. Well developed communication and interpersonal skills with the capacity to build relationships and engage students, staff and parents
5. Ability to plan and manage resources effectively and equitably to support teaching and learning
6. Knowledge of and commitment to the Department's Aboriginal education policies
