**Library Technician at Heatherton Christian College**

**INTRODUCTION**

Heatherton Christian College is a P-12 school in South East Melbourne, with a population of 370 students from Prep to 12. We believe in a holistic education where academic learning is balanced with the pursuit of spiritual, emotional, social, and physical wellbeing. Staff are expected to work collaboratively and be positive participants and contributors to the Christian ethos and culture of the College.

Staff members are expected to subscribe wholeheartedly to the Heatherton Christian College Statement of Faith and be active Christians with church involvement.

**ROLE SUMMARY**

**Position**: Library Technician (0.5FTE - hours to be negotiated)

**Responsible to**: Head of Teaching and Learning

**Job Purpose**:To support the smooth operation of the Library for staff and students

**MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES**

Consistently model the College's Vision, Mission and Values in all dealings with students, staff and external parties.

**GENERAL DUTIES**

**Public Relations**
- Assist with maintaining compliance training of volunteers
- To assist students and staff in appropriate areas
- To contribute to a warm, welcoming Library
- To liaise with, and assist parent helpers

**Resources**
- To shelve all resources and ensure the resources are kept in the correct order
- To repair damaged or worn material
- To prepare and cover new resources
- To do an annual stock take
- To prepare and make displays and signage
- To monitor stationery stocks, etc.

**Circulation Desk**
- To loan and return resources
- To issue overdue loan notices and lists

**Cataloguing**
- To catalogue new items and enter details into the data base

**Data Entry**
- To make sure all data is consistently entered
- To enter and maintain student details on the Library Management System
- To maintain statistics and create reports
- To periodically clean up and re-index files as needed

**Other**
- To perform clerical duties (filing, typing) as needed
- To pack up and tidy the Library at the end of each day
- To ensure the Library is tidy throughout the day
- Other duties as they arise, at the request of the Head of Teaching and Learning

**SELECTION CRITERIA**

**Essential**
- Demonstrated commitment and capacity to actively promote the Mission and Values of Heatherton Christian College in the school community
- The ability to work as a team member
- Excellent verbal and communication skills
- Excellent written English skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite
- Outstanding interpersonal skills and the ability to liaise with students, staff, and the community
- Ability to maintain confidentiality, and to demonstrate initiative and creativity in work skills.
- Demonstrate empathy towards all students and their parents

**Desirable**
- Certificate IV, Library and Information Services
- Experience with Library automation systems
