This 12 month traineeship based in Box Hill provides support to the Client Support and Housing Services to ensure the department can operate in an effective and efficient manner.

**Youth Employment Scheme (YES)**

The Youth Employment Scheme (YES) is a Victorian State Government funded initiative designed to increase the workforce participation of young people, particularly those facing significant barriers to employment. Through this program, 12-month traineeships are made available to young people aged between 15 and 29. These placements provide trainees with meaningful work experience and formal training to give a solid foundation for a sustainable career.

**Position Overview**

The Housing Services Officer Trainee plays a vital role in supporting the delivery of client-centered services to individuals and families who seek housing assistance or reside in public housing. The department provides affordable and secure housing assistance for low-income people across Victoria. This includes emergency and transitional accommodation, longer-term public and community managed housing, private rental assistance, homelessness assistance, home ownership assistance, new forms of social housing and related support services.

Housing Services Officer Trainees are part of a network of community workers and organisations that share the responsibility for working with vulnerable people to promote and support their wellbeing. The role undertakes a range of tasks that supports tenancy and property management and the provision of housing advice and assistance.

**Key Accountabilities**
- Undertake a range of administrative functions to support the operation of the work unit as required and, under general direction, participate in the development and implementation of new processes and systems.
- Perform computer-based tasks including preparing and sending standard written communications.
- Communicate and liaise effectively with managers, staff and community networks to assist in the professional operation of the area.
- Coordinating meetings and assist in preparing agendas and note-taking when required.
- Sorting, scanning and filing confidential documentation.
- Input data and information to the department's databases and systems.
- Keep accurate and complete records of your work activities in accordance with legislative requirements and the department's records, information security and privacy policies.
- Assist in making appropriate referrals to internal or external support service providers in order to assist clients with their short-term housing needs.
- Attend supervised home visits to department's housing properties as part of your learning, development and understanding of the business area.
- Risk reporting - where you become aware of domestic violence and/or children at risk escalate to senior staff.
- Take reasonable care for your own health and safety and for that of others in the workplace by working in accordance with legislative requirements and the department's occupational health and safety (OHS) policies and procedures.

**Desirable**
- Experience with MS Office programs such as Word, Excel and PowerPoint would be desirable.
