**What progress will you make?**
Our **Risk Management** team acts as a strong independent partner to our firm to set standards and actively oversee and manage various risks in a manner consistent with Citi's risk appetite. The team also establishes policies and processes to guide risk assessment and risk management, ensuring the appropriate controls and tools are in place to identify, assess, measure, monitor and control risks taken by Citi.
The Citi Commercial Bank (CCB) Independent Risk Approver is responsible for approving and managing Citi's Commercial Banking risk exposure in coordination with the 1st Line of Defense and Risk Management team.
**In this role, you're expected to**:
- Work as an Independent Risk Approver focusing on Medium to Large Commercial Banking relationships. Partnering with the sales and analyst team, providing value-added input supporting development of financing solutions within Citi's Target Market and Risk Acceptance Criteria and overall Risk Appetite.
- Execute administrative tasks related to Portfolio management
- Review and approve credit proposals up to his/her authority
- Be engaged with reviews of approvals, attesting that they are in compliance with the Policy & Procedures and adhere to local regulations
- Participate in stress testing, Country program review and other ad-hoc tasks
- Take leadership in monitoring account status, collecting market intelligence, working with business & analysts to evaluate the situation and determine necessary actions.
- Learning about a broad range of industries and developing a deep level of expertise on Citi's credit, policies and practices
- Maintain an in-depth knowledge of Citi credit policies and procedures and applicable local and U.S. regulations in achieving compliance and satisfactory internal and external audit results
- Participate in Global Industry Workstreams (as needed), providing input which supports development of industry specific strategies.
- Ensure safe, sound and timely underwriting practices and overall leadership of Citibank credit standards
- Degree holder with a minimum ten solid years of experience in corporate/commercial bank lending
- Strong analytical skills with ability to process complex information and structure a financing solution with strong attention to details and balanced risk management focus.
- Confidence to present high-quality credit recommendation.
- Ability to work with bankers and analysts in analyzing complex credits and monitoring the portfolio with the goal of proactively managing the portfolio within Citi's Risk Appetite.
- Ability to adjust plans and priorities when necessary to meet evolving client and business needs
- Highly independent with strong self-initiation and is able to work under pressure with minimum supervision
- Ability to embrace new technology and understand the role digital plays in the experience we deliver for our clients with focus on process discipline and improvement
- Proven leadership skill with excellent interpersonal communication skills at all levels.
- Sound understanding of cash, trade and derivative products. Good understanding of counterparty risk, market risk and its impact on credit decisions.
- Self-starter with ability to lead and work through ambiguity
- Bachelor's degree/University degree or equivalent experience
- Master's degree preferred
