Willetton SHS is one of the largest schools in Western Australia, with a student population in excess of 2700, approximately 230 teaching staff and 145 support staff on campus.
At the centre of Willetton SHS is our vastly diverse student population, drawn from diverse geographic, cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds.
Willetton SHS is the school of choice for many local and international families, and relationships between the school and community are actively nurtured and valued.
Our success stems from our emphasis on superior learning experiences, with our school defining and celebrating success as achievement of personal best.
Guided by the belief in every student's potential, Willetton SHS prioritises safe and inspiring environments for both learners and educators.
Through nurturing self-worth and community contribution, our school values of care, respect and excellence are imparted upon our students to shape a positive culture known as the "Willo Way."
With a commitment to holistic development, Willetton SHS offers selective programs in Basketball and Gifted and Talented Education (GATE), along with a range of opportunities designed to enrich students' academic experience.
Our curriculum encourages social responsibility, contribution to community and practical skills essential for life beyond school.
There is a strong focus on pastoral care at Willetton SHS and our staff are exemplary practitioners committed to creating balanced, challenging and exciting learning environments that foster a lifelong love of learning and empower students to take responsibility for their educational journey.
We provide and encourage opportunities for personal and professional growth for our staff, supporting our commitment to delivering engaging and purposeful learning environments.
The Role
Willetton SHS is seeking an enthusiastic, creative, and passionate Health and Physical Education (HPE) teacher to be part of the school's long-standing and highly successful Specialist Basketball Program.
With a proud 35-year history and a reputation as the state's leading pathway for basketball excellence, the program provides student-athletes with the opportunity to excel both academically and athletically while developing qualities such as leadership, resilience, teamwork, and a strong work ethic.
The successful applicant should bring energy and expertise to the program, supporting students to reach their potential and upholding the ethos and values of both the program and the school.
The main responsibility of this position is to teach in the Specialist Basketball Program, and applicants should therefore display a high level of experience and expertise in basketball to be considered.
In addition to this role, the selected individual will contribute to other areas of the HPE Learning Area, including Lower school HPE programs across Years 7–12.
Experience in teaching Australian Tertiary Admissions Rank (ATAR) and General course in HPE is highly desirable, along with the ability to employ a variety of high-impact pedagogical strategies that engage and challenge diverse learners.
The teacher appointed to this role will ideally display strong classroom management, a student-focused and inclusive approach, and the capacity to collaborate with colleagues in curriculum development, resource sharing, and the refinement of teaching strategies to maximise student learning outcomes.
The successful applicant would maintain high expectations for student achievement, nurture safe and motivating learning environments, and contribute positively to the wider school community, including Willetton's extensive extra-curricular interschool sporting program.
Applicants are encouraged to familiarise themselves with Willetton SHS' Business Plan and the Department of Education's Teaching for Impact framework to ensure their application reflects alignment with the school's priorities and context.
