About NAPCo: The North Australian Pastoral Company (NAPCo) was founded in 1877 and is one of Australia's leading beef cattle companies, managing over 6.1 million hectares, the largest single herd in the world, and home to Five Founders Beef. NAPCo employs approximately 220 staff across Queensland and the Northern Territory, with 15 cattle stations, a depot in Mount Isa, a feedlot and farm in the Darling Downs, and an office in Brisbane's CBD. Soudan Station, NT, is part of this network and runs approximately 22,000 head of cattle. It is located on the Barkly Highway, 1 hour west of Camooweal.
This is a rare opportunity to experience life in an iconic Australian cattle station environment while positively impacting and shaping young agriculture minds of the future. The Governess will support the education of two children through distance education and will maintain an organised, structured, and engaging learning environment with enthusiasm and energy.
The Role
Join Soudan Station as a Governess, supporting the education of two children through distance education. The Governess consistently achieves learning outcomes by providing an organized, structured, and engaging learning environment and bringing a fun, enthusiastic, and energetic approach to learning.
Day-to-Day Duties
Plan, prepare, and deliver curriculum subjects and lessons
Participate in on-air communications
Monitor progress and maintain records as required
Attend off-property school functions and exercises as required
Communicate regularly with parents about progress, challenges, and all other relevant matters
Maintain a tidy, clean, and organized learning environment
Occasional care of one under-school-age child with engaging activities during the day
Assist with other duties around the station as needed
Qualifications and Ideal Traits
Experience supporting children's education – kindy and primary school ages
Experience delivering lessons coordinated by a school of the air
Relevant qualifications for working with/supervising children
High level of patience and empathy
Attention to detail, good observational skills, and strong communication/reporting skills
Autonomy to work unsupervised with strong time and routine management skills
Strong work ethic and high attendance record
Professionalism and confidentiality
Ability to commit to the entire school period; recreational leave may be available only during term breaks
Current Working With Children Check (Okra Card, NT) or ability to obtain one
Must be able to commence in Jan 2026 with the school year and complete the school year
