**About the opportunity**
Blacktown Animal Rehoming Centre (BARC) is one of the largest and most progressive animal care facilities in New South Wales. We are committed to providing compassionate and high-quality care for lost, abandoned, and surrendered animals while actively working to find them loving forever homes.
We are looking for full-time and part-time passionate and dedicated Animal Rehoming Officers to join our dynamic team. In this role, you'll play a key part in helping our animals transition from the shelter into the arms of new, responsible owners.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist in assessing animals for adoption suitability
- Matching potential adopters with suitable pets based on lifestyle, temperament, and needs
- Coordinate and conduct meet-and-greet sessions and adoption interviews Provide accurate information and education to adopters on animal care
- Maintain detailed and up-to-date animal records
- Support promotional events and campaigns to encourage responsible pet ownership and adoptions
- Work collaboratively with animal care, veterinary, foster carers, rescue agencies and customer service teams.
You are an accomplished animal lover with strong communication skills and a genuine desire to make a difference. You're knowledgeable, patient, and committed to creating positive outcomes for both animals and people.
Essential Criteria:
- Experience working in animal welfare, veterinary services, or a related field
- Qualifications in animal behaviour, welfare, veterinary or related field Strong understanding of animal behaviour, care, and enrichment
- Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills Ability to work weekends and public holidays on a rotating roster
- Physically fit and capable of handling animals of all sizes
- Experience in a shelter or rehoming environment
- Familiarity with animal shelter software systems.

**Qualifications and experience**
**Essential**:
- Formal qualifications or a demonstrated high level of experience in companion animal management or
similar regulatory environment
- A high level of experience handling companion animals, particularly dogs and cats
- A sound knowledge and understanding of animal care and welfare issues
- High level oral and written communication skills including sound negotiation and conflict resolution skills
- Current class C driver's licence.
**Remuneration and benefits**
The salary and conditions of employment are in accordance with Blacktown City Council's Enterprise Agreement.
- Entry level for this position starts at $1,316.09 per week
- 38-hour working week
- Rostered Day Off (RDO) every fortnight
- Employee benefits such as leave entitlements (where applicable), 11.5% employer contribution payable to your nominated superannuation fund, Fitness Passport, gym membership discounts, and social clubs.
