Mental health, community health and dental services are delivered through programs across the Barwon South West Region, including Torquay and Colac.Emergency Department Barwon Health ED is a large regional service, handling approximately 80,000 emergency presentations per year.
Patients are streamed to dedicated assessment areas (fast track, adult, paediatric, resuscitation, trauma and mental health).
The department includes short stay units to ensure appropriate care is delivered in the right place at the right time.The Role An exciting opportunity to participate in a Discovery Program in Emergency Nursing.
Successful applicants will have acute nursing experience, excellent communication skills and a motivation for ongoing professional development.
Multiple positions available with program commencing in February 2026.
Successful applicants will be supported by a well-established structured program.The ProgramThe Emergency Discovery Program provides a 6-month supported clinical program to Registered Nurses Year 2 or above who have little or no experience in emergency nursing.
The aim is to develop foundation knowledge and clinical skills to practice safely and effectively in the emergency department.
Specialists and preceptors provide clinical, educational and professional support.The Discovery Program provides opportunities to:experience and practice emergency nursing in a supportive environmentbuild foundation knowledge and skills for working in emergency nursinggain competency in essential emergency clinical skills and development of assessment and management of adult and paediatric emergency patientsparticipate in supernumerary orientation daysthree educational study daysThe program offers varied learning opportunities and aims to ensure development of core foundation skills for safe delivery of care in the emergency department.Key emergency nursing topicsmanagement of the fast track patientcardiac monitoring and ECG analysisrespiratory assessment and managementmanagement of the basic trauma patientadvanced neurological assessment, toxicologyadvanced principles of fluid managementParticipants are supported by Clinical Support Nurses to develop necessary clinical skills in the clinical setting.Requirements Registered Nurse with acute nursing experienceParticipants will be required to complete clinical hurdles, perform adult and paediatric patient assessments and complete a summative appraisal on completion of the programCulture and Benefits You will be part of a highly skilled, professional and dedicated team.
