An exciting opportunity exists to join the Intensive Care Unit at Wollongong Hospital.

**Where you'll be working**
Wollongong Hospital is the Illawarra and Shoalhaven's major referral and teaching hospital and has a bed base of more than 500. The campus, which incorporates the Illawarra Regional Cancer Care Centre, provides a comprehensive range of inpatient, outpatient and community-based services.

**What you'll be doing**

The Intensive Care Provisional/Transitional Fellow will work under the supervision of Specialist Intensive Care Physicians, assisting to manage, diagnose and treat patients with severe medical, surgical, obstetric and pediatric illness. This may include the management of deteriorating and seriously ill patients outside the intensive care unit as well as the intra-hospital transport of critically ill patients.
Provisional/Transitional fellow position allows a role between that of trainee and consultant, with flexibility and graded responsibility to allow increasing clinical autonomy, and development of skills in research and administration. It is aimed to assist the movement of the trainee into specialist practice and build on those skills and attributes acquired in the early years of training and which were assessed in the formal exams and in workplace-based assessments.
The position is accredited for ICU training by the CICM and evidence of progression towards fellowship is an essential criterion of the role.

**Selection Criteria**:

- MBBS or equivalent, currently registered or eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia.
- Satisfactory completion of the required clinical training time and assessments for the core intensive care medicine, anaesthesia, and medicine years as per CICM training program.
- Satisfactory completion of the CICM Second Part Examination. Satisfactory completion of all prescribes courses, learning packages and WBA as per CICM.
- Satisfactory exposure to two out of three sub-specialties in a) Cardiothoracic surgery intensive care, b) Neurological/Neurosurgery intensive care, c) Trauma intensive care.
- Completion of at least two years in an accredited training position in an Australian Intensive Care, or overseas equivalent
- Demonstrated competency in emergency situations with skills in advanced life support
- High level of communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work as part of a team
