Rural Fire Service Queensland (RFSQ) Districts focus on supporting operational and organisational functions in rural fire management, enabling staff and volunteers to concentrate on immediate response tasks.
Each District includes operational and non-operational staff, volunteers, and fire brigades providing fire management, mitigation, and response services for rural, semi-rural, and some urban fringe communities.
Purpose of the role Reporting to the Assistant Chief Officer (District), you will coordinate mitigation strategies and education programs, manage the Fire Warden network, and oversee the Permit to Light System across the District.
You will contribute to planning, implementing, and evaluating district-wide programs and initiatives, working closely with stakeholders to strengthen bushfire mitigation networks.
Mandatory requirements Must meet the requirements outlined in the generic RFSQ Inspector role description.
Desirable requirements Effective communication with diverse stakeholders from rural and remote communities.
Primary duties Lead bushfire mitigation planning and activities, including risk assessments and evaluations.
Manage and mentor Bushfire Mitigation Officers and First Nations officers.
Act as Chief Fire Warden in their absence and support bushfire operations.
Oversee Fire Warden appointments, training, and support.
Manage the Permit to Light Fire system and collaborate with the Bushfire Mitigation Unit.
Support bushfire risk data management and serve as a liaison for intelligence sharing.
Manage regulatory tools, including fire bans, and assist with fire investigations and enforcement.
Coordinate district bushfire committees and participate in forums and working groups.
Additional information Suitable applicants are typically Substantive Inspectors; Rural Officer Two with relevant skills are encouraged to apply.
Volunteers and external parties with skills are encouraged to apply.
Commitment to bushfire competencies and regional teamwork is essential.
Travel and flexible hours, including nights and weekends, may be required.
Participation in professional development is mandatory.
Training to maintain roles within the Queensland Disaster Management Arrangements is required.
