**Position Purpose**

A Lecturer within the Clinical or Professional Practice Scholar track is expected to develop scholarly
teaching and professional activities relevant to the discipline. This position contributes to the teaching effort
of the discipline through the preparation and delivery of lectures, tutorials, other types of teaching activities,
as well as participating within the clinical activity of the hospital. The person in this position is also expected
to perform a range of administrative and service functions within the College and across the University.***

**About the Work Area
Position Description
Lecturer Level B

The School of Veterinary Medicine is responsible for the training of veterinary science graduates within our
internationally recognised degree programme. A central part of training is development of core clinical
competencies, and as part of this process, veterinary students undertake training in our Hospital, clinics
and clinical services.

Small Animal Medicine is a key discipline within the School of Veterinary Medicine. The discipline
contributes to the teaching of all veterinary students, conducts postgraduate research and specialist clinical
training programmes, offers continuing professional development to practitioners within Western Australia
and beyond, contributes to research of international standard, and provides a clinical referral service for the
Animal Hospital, delivering high quality veterinary care to dogs and cats within the community in conjunction
with colleagues from other disciplines.

**Key Responsibilities / Duties**

1. Contribute to teaching within the discipline, including preparing and delivering lectures, tutorials,

seminars, practical classes, demonstrations, workshops, student field excursions, clinical sessions
and studio sessions, and marking and assessments.

2. Develop innovative teaching and learning methods
3. Undertake additional advanced training within the field of veterinary education (e.g. PhD or

postgraduate diploma) or referral small animal medicine (e.g. residency in the clinical specialty of
small animal medicine) to develop future clinical or teaching activities within the discipline.

4. Participate in the Small Animal Medicine or Oncology referral service at the Animal Hospital.
5. Develop course material and undertake unit coordination.
6. Participate in high quality research within the fields of teaching or small animal medicine.
7. Consult with, and provide advice to, undergraduate, postgraduate and HDR students.
8. Contribute to the College, the University, the profession, and the discipline.
9. Make a contribution to service, at College level, by undertaking specific administrative, planning

and/or committee work.
10. Participate in the University's Academic Contribution Development Review (ACDR).
11. Undertake such other duties as determined by the Head of Discipline or Principal of the School.
