Children's Medical Research Institute (CMRI) was Australia's first dedicated paediatric research facility and is now an internationally highly respected independent medical research organisation. We focus on major problems impacting children's health in areas including cancer, genomics and genetic diseases, neurobiology, and embryology.
**Work with a team of dedicated professionals**
The Head of Marketing and Communications will play a pivotal role in developing and executing a comprehensive strategy that aligns with the institute's mission, strengthens our brand, and amplifies awareness of CMRI's research and impact. This leadership position will drive both internal and external communication efforts, fostering stakeholder engagement, elevating the institute's reputation, and broadening the visibility of our research programs.
As a key leader within a multidisciplinary team, you will provide strategic oversight across marketing, communications, digital platforms, public relations, and media ensuring all activities are in alignment with the Institute's mission and objectives unified to the CMRI brand.
**What you'll do**:
**Strategic Leadership**
- Lead the development and execution of the Institute's marketing and communications strategy, ensuring alignment with organisational goals, values, and mission.
- Work closely with key stakeholders across the Institute, including scientific teams, to turn complex medical research into engaging, accessible content for diverse audiences.
- Manage and mentor a team of marketing, communication, and digital professionals, fostering their professional growth and success.
- Collaborate closely with the Fundraising Director to ensure alignment between the fundraising strategy and the brand and communication strategies, ensuring they complement each other and effectively resonate with CMRI's audiences.
**Brand and Reputation Management**
- Spearhead the development and upkeep of a strong, consistent brand identity across all communications channels.
- Oversee messaging for public relations, media campaigns, impact reports, website content, social media, and promotional materials.
- Manage the Institute's public image, ensuring positive representation across all media.
- Build and nurture relationships with media outlets, journalists, and industry influencers to secure media coverage and position the Institute as a leader in medical research.
- Collaborate with the Head of People to develop CMRI's Employer Brand.
**Digital and Social Media Strategy**
- Lead the Institute's social media strategy, driving engagement, advocacy, and awareness across platforms like Twitter, LinkedIn, Facebook, and Instagram.
- Implement SEO, content marketing, and paid media strategies to increase visibility for the Institute's initiatives and research.
- Lead the design, development, implementation and maintenance of CMRI's new intrant site.
**Major Campaigns, Event Planning and Stakeholder Engagement**
- Develop and execute innovative marketing strategies that drive brand awareness and engagement for CMRI's signature campaign Jeans for Genes. Focusing on strengthening the brand presence, creating compelling messaging, and leveraging digital and traditional marketing channels to maximise campaign success and reach target audiences effectively.
- Lead the planning and execution of key events such as All Staff Meeting, and external media engagements.
- Manage communication strategies for high-profile engagements and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders and partners in the sectors.

**Qualifications & Experience**
- Experience: Minimum of 7 years in senior-level marketing and communication roles.
- Education: Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Communications, Public Relations or equivalent experience. A background in science or a relevant science degree is highly desirable.
