**About our opportunity**
An exciting opportunity exists for an experienced individual who can support our dedicated invasive animal team and promote councils' corporate values. As a Pest Management Officer - Invasive Species (Animals), you will work in liaison with a range of stakeholders to manage invasive species across the region as directed by the Biosecurity Act 2014, by providing best practice management to reduce the adverse impacts invasive species pose to our unique biodiversity.
You will be knowledgeable in invasive species ecology and management at a landscape scale, enabling delivery of management solutions at a local level, whilst complying with various legislative requirements and codes of practices in invasive species management and animal welfare. Additional training will be provided on invasive animal management strategies, and as such, you will need to be willing and prepared to learn.
Teamwork is an important aspect of this role. You will have a positive attitude to effectively collaborate in a team environment to prioritise and identify strategies in invasive species management to achieve desired outcomes. You will use all reasonable and practical measures to prevent or minimise environmental harm and comply with Council's environmental policies, protocols and procedures. You will investigate, resolve and document requests regarding invasive animals, nuisances and other pest management related matters, whilst demonstrating excellence in customer service, integrity, and accountability. Additionally, you will
- Undertake trapping programs for the control of restricted animals, including the administration of euthanasia drugs (sedation drugs and S7 poisons) and use of firearms, to safely and effectively remove restricted animals from the region.
- Deliver baiting sessions as part of Council's 1080 regional baiting program for the control of wild dogs, in accordance with the Queensland Health legislation.
- Utilise approved biological control agents and fumigants, monitor their effectiveness and assess their impact on target species.
This role requires the participation in council's "After Hours On-Call Roster" and some additional programmed overtime.
**About you**
You will have excellent attention to detail with an ability to identify and manage risks in the operating environment. You will have detailed knowledge of firearm safety and be able to demonstrate humane destruction of invasive animals. You will have good computer skills to input data, mapping and deliver power point presentations of programmed works.
You will need to be able to quickly develop and maintain a working knowledge of the legislative requirements and demonstrate a high level of animal welfare standards in vertebrate pest management. Additionally, you will have.
- Tertiary qualification in Conservation Land Management, Environmental Management (or ability to acquire) and/or significant relevant industry experience.
- Ability to be issued a Handling and distribution of S7 poisons (1080) endorsement via Queensland Health (upon commencement with City of Moreton Bay).
- Current (or willing to obtain) Agricultural Chemical Distribution Control (ACDC) licence.
- Current firearms licence.
- Current C class driver's
- Construction Induction Card (White Card)
