We are dedicated to safeguarding both human and animal health by preventing and mitigating plant and animal pests and diseases.
We work tirelessly to uphold a high level of animal welfare standards and maintain access to interstate markets, critical for Queensland's thriving primary industries.
BQ monitors and regulates the application of agricultural and veterinary chemicals, ensuring they are used safely and in compliance with legislation.
With a commitment to developing capabilities and preparedness, we are at the forefront of protecting Queensland against biosecurity risks.Animal Biosecurity and Welfare (ABW) supports BQ's efforts to prevent, respond to, and recover from diseases threatening livestock industries and maintaining access to markets.
Our people work together to help mitigate biosecurity risks, uphold standards for animal welfare and management, and lead the Department of Agriculture and Fisheries' response to biosecurity emergencies to achieve outcomes aligned with the Department's strategic direction for leadership in animal welfare, exhibited animal, animal management, and animal ethics policy and service delivery.As our biosecurity officer, you will provide operational services that protect and enhance animal biosecurity and welfare in Queensland.
Given Queensland's high incidence of biosecurity incursions, your efforts will be crucial in helping the government prevent, respond to, and recover from biosecurity threats that endanger our environment and economy.Success in this role is defined by:Dedication to protecting and enhancing animal biosecurity and welfare.Ability to manage your own work priorities, ensuring tasks are completed promptly and meet project deadlines.Active contribution as a member of a high-performing team.It is a requirement for all Biosecurity Queensland positions to have a criminal history check completed.
