Strategist

Join QIC's State Investments team as Strategist on a full time basis. Working with the Investment Director - Capital Markets, the Strategist will have direct input into the management of portfolio exposures managed on behalf of the Queensland State Government and other clients. The role is based in Brisbane, however interest from other states can be considered supported by QIC's embedded flexible working policy.

As Strategist you will have a focus on formulating capital market assumptions and developing multi-asset portfolio modelling tools used by State Investments to generate asset allocation recommendations for client portfolios. You will also play a material role in the generating and reporting of portfolio analytics for the benefit of internal use as well as information required to report to clients, stakeholders and the Board.

You will bring a mix of quantitative and fundamental skill to contribute to the State Investments research program and the development of investment management processes. You will also;
- Assist in the maintenance and calibration models used to support capital markets assumptions and asset allocation decisions.
- Help develop and extend State Investments systems and processes for measuring decision making outcomes across its portfolios
- Build and extend State Investments portfolio risk modelling to aid in better transparency into risk exposures and communication of risks being taken to clients
- Extend and support modelling to aid in stress, scenario and liquidity testing for State Investment portfolios
- Play a material role in the reporting of risks, returns and portfolio outcomes for clients as well as reporting required for the State Investments Investment Committee and the QIC Board
- Communicate portfolio outcomes, risks and future developments internally and educate the wider team on portfolio issues
- Assist in the Opportunistic Asset Allocation (OAA) program for the State Investments clients including the work on the framework and models used to generate tactical investment recommendations
- Keep abreast of major academic and industry research as well as industry trends across asset classes, and asset allocation, portfolio construction, risk management and asset liability research
- Review and be aware of a range of approaches in managing multi asset class portfolios

You may have prior experience as a multi-asset investor or be an asset class specialist looking to broaden your skillset. You will bring;
- Knowledge of global economics and financial markets
- Understanding of asset pricing models
- Understanding of portfolio construction and including qualitative and quantitative techniques
- Practical experience managing multi asset or complex portfolios
- Ability to develop capabilities to represent QIC to external parties
- Developed communication skills - both written and verbal
- Experience with quantitative analysis software, eg. Matlab, Python, Jacobi
- Knowledge and understanding of performance attribution methods
- Knowledge of international data information systems, eg. Datastream, Bloomberg, Factset etc.
- Knowledge of in-house data warehouse and performance measurement systems.
