The Material Specialist is responsible for ordering and managing suppliers and inventory to ensure on time delivery is achieved at the best value and at the required quality levels. The role will support all products lines and objectives are to meet requirement dates and to meet PDD or customer needs.
Position Accountabilities
- Provide a daily status report to Production Planners on all new/serviceable parts required for assembly, test and shipping that will not meet the required dates. Work proactively to achieve customer requirements.
- Raise and Manage purchase orders to invoice closure.
- Work with and manage all suppliers. This includes 6 monthly supplier performance metric, and proposed initiatives to improve supplier shortfalls.
- Explore options and make recommendations to reduce costs and TAT with existing and new suppliers.
- Ensure high levels of communication exist to all internal customers so planning efforts are maximised and to ensure all efforts are made to explore any avenues in delivering parts on time.
- Continually update purchase order delivery dates and pricing changes to ensure the system us up to date with the latest information.
- Liaise with manufacturers and distributors on the availability of parts, current status, expected delivery dates, pricing, etc.
- Performing incoming receiving inspections in accordance with Quality procedures.
- Receiving parts and material into applicable inventories.
- Issuing parts and materials to work orders and sales orders per reservations or requests.
- Help Develop and implement Continuous Improvement initiatives and strategies across the supply chain.
- Support co-workers during vacation/sick time, etc.
- Evening work will be required on occasions to manage overseas suppliers.
- Perform other departmental duties as required

Qualifications/Experience
- Minimum grade 12 with related post-secondary education or equivalent work experience
- Good interpersonal skills
- Good knowledge of the following software: Excel, Power Point, Word, E-mail, Access.
- Must be willing to work shift work, occasional overtime, weekend and holiday on-call when required
- Strong accounting and purchasing experience
- A strong technical learning ability
- Experience in shipping, receiving, issuing, and parts handling.
