
Disability Support Worker

**Objective Function of The Position**:
To actively provide support assistance to NDIS participants to achieve their maximum potential and the lifestyle they choose, within their community by providing strength-based and person-centered support services. The Disability Support Worker ensures the social and emotional wellbeing, personal development, and personal care needs of the participant are met, in accordance with support focus, therapeutic and individual goal plans, and must follow relevant TasRespite & Support organizational policies and procedures.

- Knowledge, respect, and genuine appreciation of the difficulties and challenges experienced by people living with a disability

**2. Communication**
- Ability to establish effective and professional working relationships with clients, their families, external stakeholders, and co-workers
- Strong basic numeracy, literacy, and computing skills
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to understand organizational and participant documentation

- Collaborates effectively with other team members to achieve participant goals
- Ability to work within a team environment to achieve program objectives
**4. Professionalism**
- Represents TasRespite & Support in a professional manner and promotes a positive image of TasRespite & Support to clients, the community, and relevant stakeholders.

- Applies Work Health and Safety (WHS) principles in the workplace.
- Ability to remain calm and respond effectively in an emergency
**6. Excellent organisational, time management skills, and ability to be self-directed**
- Ability to work independently to achieve program objectives.
- Submits completed documentation and required reports on time as directed by their supervisor.
- Good timekeeping and arrives to scheduled shifts and appointments on time.
- Informs supervisors of changes to their work availability and absences in a timely manner.
**Position Specific Primary Duties**
- Provide support to people living with a disability in their daily life ranging from, meal preparation, access to the community, medication administration, and personal care.
- Work with a Person-Centred approach to assist, and support participants to build their independence and to develop skills and knowledge to pursue their goals according to their care and support plans.
- Support and actively encourage client's participation in decision making about their own program and about the service.
- Be physically fit and able to perform manual handling including moving materials, and equipment of varying weights.
- Maintain privacy and confidentiality for the participants, their families, and other stakeholders.
- Establish effective communication with the clients using whatever means of communication is appropriate for each individual and liaise with families and or advocates when required.
- Commit to ongoing training and development.
- Accurately complete administrative tasks as required following TasRespite & Support policy and procedures.
- Work with other agencies and organisations, and as part of a team to maximise outcomes for the participants we support and ensure a consistent approach to service delivery.
- Provide adequate support to clients and take account of their wishes in all matters with due regard to Duty of Care, Work Health and Safety, and TasRespite & Support policies and procedures.
- Perform other reasonable duties as directed by a supervisor.
**Selection Criteria**
**1. Personal Skills and Attributes**
- Current, unsuspended Driver's License
- Ability to establish effective and professional working relationships with clients, their families, external stakeholders, and co-workers
- Ability to support people with a disability to integrate within their local community, including mainstream activities
- Knowledge, respect, and genuine appreciation of the difficulties and challenges experienced by people living with a disability
- Effective language and literacy skills and a demonstrated capacity to maintain accurate and legible records
- Collaborates effectively with other team members to achieve participant goals
**2. Qualifications**
- Certificate III in Individual Support (Ageing and Disability) or other equivalent qualifications
