About the School
The Brisbane Youth Education and Training Centre is a Department of Education school, operating inside the Brisbane Youth Detention Centre at Wacol. Established in 2001, it is a purpose-built, state-of-the-art school which reflects the Queensland Government's vision of supporting and promoting the wellbeing and capacity of young people in detention. Our staff are passionate about helping improve the knowledge, skills and abilities of our students, many of whom have had disrupted or negative schooling experiences. We seek to educate the whole person by providing opportunities for growth, development and learning, which will prepare young people for a balanced, worthwhile future.
To maintain the engagement of students across the year and address learning gaps, funding has been approved for education delivery over 48 weeks of the year. This aligns Queensland with youth detention schools in other states and territories across Australia. The employment entitlements for staff will not change, providing an exciting opportunity for flexible work agreements. Through negotiation with the Principal, the successful applicant will determine whether a regular or alternative school holiday model is accessed.
