Newmont APAC Operations are located in Western Australia, the Northern Territory, New South Wales and Papua New Guinea, with roles in operations, projects, corporate support and exploration. APAC Business Unit Support is provided from our offices in Brisbane, Subiaco and Melbourne. About this Role
At Newmont, we are committed to fostering a safe and healthy work environment where all employees can thrive. We are seeking a dedicated and experiencedHealth& Safety Specialist to join our high-performing team and contribute to our ongoing commitment to operational excellence in health and safety.
Key Responsibilities
- Evaluate Programs: Assess key H initiatives including Fatality Risk Management, industrial hygiene, emergency response, and occupational health to identify risks and recommend improvements.
- Ensure Compliance: Participate in compliance, assurance, audit, and governance activities, and support the implementation and monitoring of corrective actions.
- Drive Continuous Improvement: Analyse H events, trends, and performance data to uncover systemic gaps and drive ongoing improvement. Facilitate incident investigations and ensure timely communication of lessons learned.
- Enhance Training: Assist operational teams in developing and maintaining effective safety training programs for employees and contractors.
- Support Emergency Preparedness: Coordinate the planning, delivery, and evaluation of Rapid Response training and emergency response exercises and assist with the review and maintenance of emergency response procedures.
- Report Performance: Develop and disseminate H metrics and performance reports to support informed decision-making and measure progress against safety objectives.
- Promote Collaboration: Foster a culture of cross-site collaboration and knowledge sharing to strengthen H outcomes and create business value across the organisation.
About You
To succeed in this role, you will bring the following qualifications and experience:
- Tertiary qualifications in Occupational Health and Safety, Science or related field.
- Proven experience in mining and ore processing operations processes with a strong understanding of H standards and industry best practices.
- In-depth knowledge of regulatory compliance requirements and H governance.
- Demonstrated expertise and experience in emergency response management.
- Proficiency in data analysis and performance monitoring tools to support data-informed decision-making.
- Excellent communication, stakeholder engagement, and influencing skills.
- Willingness and ability to travel regularly to mine sites across the APAC region.
- Ability to complete a pre-employment medical assessment.
- Must be able to complete a National Police Check& Navex Risk Rate Screening.
Location and working conditions and
Our Brisbane-based team enjoy flexible Monday to Friday work options to balance working from home and in the office. Our modern office is based in Milton, conveniently located for public transport access, a range of local cafés and green outdoor spaces. Quarterly travel to mine site operations is required to provide support to Health and Safety teams.
