You will drive positive outcomes for the community, our members, customers, and our business.As Head of Government Relations and Public Affairs, you'll drive meaningful change by influencing policies that enhance safety, innovation, and industry best practices.
This role offers the chance to collaborate with key stakeholders and create lasting public benefit, making a real impact on Australia's future.What You'll DoLead the development and implementation of comprehensive government relations and public affairs strategiesPositively promote SA's initiatives and policies by building and maintaining strong working relationships with key Ministerial and Shadow contacts, Members of Parliament, government departments, agencies, industry leaders, and regulatory bodiesMonitor the political and regulatory environment, and proactively identify key areas of public policy for opportunities and impacts to SA's operationsContribute to the promotion, education, communication, influence, and publication of key advocacy messages and campaigns across all levels of governmentRepresent SA at external events, including government hearings and inquiriesAct as a spokesperson for SA, effectively communicating SA's positions and initiatives to external audiences, including the mediaCoordinate and collaborate with key internal stakeholders across the business to ensure a holistic approach to engagement with key Ministerial and government contactsProvide government relations advice to senior management and the Executive Leadership Team to achieve key outcomesPrepare reports and updates for the Board of Directors and Executive Leadership Team on government relations strategy, activities, key measures of success, and outcomesAbout youA minimum of 10 years of experience in public affairs, government relations, or a related field; preferably within the standards, regulatory, association, or not-for-profit sectorsTertiary level qualifications in a relevant discipline (i.e., Bachelor's Degree in Public Relations, Political Science, Communications, or a related field)Proven track record in developing and executing successful government relations and public affairs strategies, including a current strong network of government and associated relationshipsA deep understanding and interest in the political and legislative process and regulatory environment, including working with/within government or a government agencyWell-developed analytical skills, including the ability to assess and critically evaluate the validity of information and researchStrong communication, interpersonal and writing skills, including the demonstrated ability to write reports, project proposals, submissions, and newslettersExcellent stakeholder management skills, including ability to manage a diverse group of high-profile stakeholders involved in complex negotiationsAbility to initiate and manage projects, develop and implement strategies, meet deadlines, and manage competing priorities within a team environmentHigh level of integrity, professionalism, and discretion in handling confidential informationIf not located in Canberra, willing to travel / spend time in Canberra frequently for key meetingsWilling to travel interstate and overseas as required (current passport required)Culture & BenefitsStandards Australia is proud to have been awarded the prestigious Employer of Choice Award for two consecutive years, 2023 and 2024.
