Queensland Rail is seeking a driven and technically capable
Team Leader – Structures Asset Engineering
to lead a team of engineers delivering end-to-end engineering solutions for critical rail infrastructure. This is a leadership role within a specialist team.
Responsibilities
First point of contact for allocating engineering resources and supporting the delivery of asset management strategies across structural assets including rail bridges, road overbridges, pedestrian bridges, culverts, tunnels, and retaining structures.
Provide expert guidance to the Structures Asset Manager, Structures Maintenance Manager, and field teams ensuring technical integrity and safety across maintenance and new project works.
Hands-on engineering leadership: manage a team (example: four engineers plus graduate rotations), support field maintenance teams, conduct site inspections, and allocate resources for critical works.
Lead engineering design reviews, project alignment, and strategy for aging structures assets.
Collaborate with asset owners, designers, and third-party contractors.
What you will bring
Essential
Proven experience leading complex structural engineering work and providing technical guidance to emerging engineers, ideally within rail, transport, or other complex infrastructure environments
Strong knowledge of structural design principles and relevant Australian standards
Demonstrated ability to lead engineering outcomes while influencing and aligning stakeholders across maintenance, project delivery, and asset management functions
Skills and experience that will help you thrive
Experience working in rail infrastructure or similarly regulated environments
Practical experience in construction or on-site delivery
Understanding of whole-of-life asset management principles
Strong project management capabilities, including task prioritisation and resource coordination
Formal qualifications
Bachelor of Engineering (Civil or Structural)
Registered Professional Engineer Queensland (RPEQ)
Valid Driver's Licence – travel to various work sites
Note: If your qualification was issued overseas, ensure alignment with the Washington Accord and assessment by Engineers Australia as meeting the entry-level competency standard.
Location and Work Environment
Brisbane location
Work across office and on-site environments
Standard hours: Monday to Friday, 38 hours per week
Some weekend work and travel may be required
