PROJECT OFFICER
UNITED WORKERS' UNION
The United Workers Union is seeking highly motivated Project Officer in VIC to work part-time on a 2-year project to identify and reduce the occupational health risks facing commercial laundry workers.
ABOUT UNITED WORKERS' UNION
United Workers' Union is a powerful member-led union whose sole purpose is to serve the collective interests of members in workplaces and communities by winning significant and long-lasting gains. The Union is driving change by growing union membership, developing leadership amongst our members, encouraging active member participation in the union, building and enforcing standards in our sectors, and campaigning both politically and in the community.
The United Workers Union is proudly affiliated with the Australian Labor Party.
ABOUT THE PROJECT
This two-year initiative seeks to identify and reduce the occupational health risks facing commercial laundry workers, many of whom are from culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) backgrounds. In collaboration with industry stakeholders, workers, health and safety representatives (HSRs), and experts, the project will develop and implement control measures to address chemical exposure, heat stress, noise, and biological hazards in these workplaces.
ABOUT THE ROLE
Key Responsibilities
**Project Management**: Lead the execution of the project plan, milestones, deliverables, and reporting across a 24-month timeline.
**Stakeholder Engagement**: Facilitate collaboration with workers, employers, HSRs, safety consultants, and partner organisations, including CALD support services.
**Research Coordination**: Support data collection, worker surveys, site assessments, and engagement with an Occupational Hygienist for environmental monitoring.
**Education & Resources**: Develop multilingual training materials and safety education tools tailored for laundry workers.
**Steering Committee Leadership**: Chair quarterly Steering Committee meetings and ensure ongoing governance and compliance with union policies.
**Reporting & Evaluation**: Monitor KPIs, track project impacts, and contribute to formal evaluations and reporting for funders and stakeholders.
**Advocacy & Communication**: Assist in preparing communications, video materials, and forums to disseminate findings and promote improved OHS standards across the industry.

**Essential**:
Demonstrated project management experience in industrial or community-based projects.
Basic knowledge of the Victorian Occupational Health and Safety legislation.
Proven ability to engage with diverse stakeholders, including CALD communities.
Experience working in or with unions, worker advocacy groups, or health and safety forums.

Knowledge of workplace hazards, including heat, noise and chemicals
Drivers licence (Metropolitan and Regional travel required)
Workplace Right of Entry Permit

Contribute to meaningful improvements in worker health and safety.
Be part of a collaborative, values-driven team at the United Workers Union.
