**In the role of Manager (Rail Planning) you will**:
- Lead and manage rail planning projects and strategy development across the state, in particular the delivery of major rail planning projects in Southeast Queensland.
- Provide guidance and technical advice to departmental staff and other public sector agencies on strategic transport planning principles and methodologies.
- Foster effective working partnerships with key stakeholders including local government, other departments and internal Department of Transport and Main Roads' (TMR) divisions.
- Lead and manage a team of transport planning professionals in the delivery of rail planning projects.
**Accountabilities include**:
- Lead the development and on-going management of a program of complex rail planning studies and strategies.
- Lead and manage the technical development of staff.
- Manage issues and public information about rail planning projects and strategy, including the provision of high-level advice and reports to the Director, Program Director, Executive Director, General Manager, Deputy Director-General, Director General and Minister.
- Develop and manage key stakeholder relationships to ensure results are achieved.
- Provide guidance and mentoring to colleagues in transport study methodologies and techniques and actively contribute to the management of the branch.
- Lead and direct specific tasks or projects (involving the division and other departmental staff) to effectively coordinate and deliver various project activities on time and within budget.
- Devise strategies that identify strategic needs and priorities for the development of rail networks including options analysis and recommendations for specific issues.
- Consult and negotiate with internal and external agencies and represent the department at meetings on rail planning issues.
- Foster effective working relationships with clients and key stakeholders and represent the department on relevant working groups and forums as required.
- Prepare complex reports, briefing notes and general correspondence, ensuring the provision of accurate, timely and well written materials, targeted to the audience.
- Actively participate in performance conversations to build and support a culture of performance improvement.
This role reports to the Director (Rail Planning).
