Overview
We are seeking a highly skilled
Product Manager / Engineer
with deep expertise in the
Australian Frequency Control Ancillary Services (FCAS) market
to join our team. The ideal candidate will combine strong technical knowledge of power systems and grid operations with product management experience to drive the development and deployment of innovative energy solutions. This role involves working closely with engineering, regulatory, and commercial teams to design products that capture value from FCAS participation while ensuring compliance with the
National Electricity Market (NEM)
requirements.
Key Responsibilities
Lead product development and strategy for solutions that enable participation in the FCAS market
Analyse and interpret AEMO rules, FCAS market requirements, and grid codes, and translate them into product and system design
Work with engineering teams to integrate control systems, storage, and generation assets to deliver reliable FCAS services
Develop market models, forecasts, and commercial strategies to optimise bidding and dispatch in FCAS markets
Collaborate with stakeholders (AEMO, DNSPs, regulators, technology vendors) to ensure compliance and alignment with market changes
Provide technical and commercial input into proposals, tenders, and investment decisions related to FCAS-enabled assets
Monitor evolving regulatory frameworks, market reforms, and frequency control technologies to inform roadmap planning
Support testing, validation, and performance reporting of assets providing FCAS services
Qualifications & Skills
Bachelor's degree (or higher) in
Electrical Engineering, Energy Systems, Economics, or related discipline
In-depth knowledge of the
NEM and FCAS markets
(Raise/Lower, Regulation, Contingency services)
Proven experience in
energy markets, grid operations, or battery storage systems
.
Strong analytical skills in
market modelling, dispatch optimisation, and asset performance evaluation
.
Familiarity with
AEMO systems
(e.g., NEMDE, MMS, EMMS) and regulatory compliance requirements
Excellent communication skills to liaise with internal teams, regulators, and customers
Ability to manage complex projects with cross-functional teams
Preferred Skills
Experience with
battery energy storage systems (BESS)
and their participation in FCAS
Knowledge of
real-time control systems, SCADA, and DER aggregation platforms
Understanding of
DER and VPP participation in ancillary services
Exposure to
AEMO rule changes, ESB reforms, or FCAS market design evolution
Experience in
product lifecycle management
(from concept through to market launch)
