Hourly Rate : $34.17 to $35.62 per hour pending experience

About the role
Southern Cross Catholic College, Annandale, seeks an experienced School Officer - Laboratory Assistant to start as soon as practicable.
This is a fixed-term, term-time position, working 25 hours per week during school terms, with holidays off.
The role involves assisting with the preparation and delivery of equipment and materials for science classes, mainly for Years 7-12.
The position supports the management of laboratories and equipment to facilitate science programs, ensuring compliance with Work Health and Safety and legislative standards.
Key Accountabilities
Assist in preparing equipment, materials, and chemicals for laboratory experiments
Support the design and demonstration of experiments under supervision
Prepare, maintain, and dismantle laboratory setups and dispose of waste
Prepare and dispense stock solutions and chemical mixtures as directed
Maintain inventory records and equipment logs
Perform other duties as directed
Uphold the Catholic ethos and actively contribute to the school community
Participate in professional development opportunities
Adhere to all policies, maintain confidentiality, and demonstrate respect
Follow health and safety protocols, report hazards, and support a culture of safety
Ensure the safety and wellbeing of students, complying with mandatory reporting laws
About you
Experience and Skills
Ability to work collaboratively and engage with current issues and research
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
Knowledge of Work Health and Safety in a lab setting
Understanding of Hazardous Substances and MSDS
Ability to organise, prioritise, and adapt to changing tasks
Strong relationship-building skills

Mandatory Criteria
Current paid Working with Children Blue Card or ability to obtain prior to start
Valid driver's license
Ability to travel within the Diocese as needed
Physical capability to perform role duties safely
Desirable Criteria
Cert III Laboratory Skills or Cert IV Laboratory Techniques
Experience in education preferred
