You'll work closely with senior legal professionals, partners, and business services teams to deliver timely, accurate assessments that support the firm's strategic goals.This is more than a compliance role—it's a chance to influence policy, mentor rising talent, and contribute to cross-functional initiatives that drive innovation across the firm.Responsibilities Lead end-to-end business intake checks for new clients and matters, including conflict screening and AML/CTF due diligenceUse platforms like Intapp to deliver fast, accurate assessmentsAdvise partners and internal teams on regulatory obligations and escalation pathwaysMentor and coach junior team members to build consistency and technical expertiseCollaborate on policy roll-outs, system upgrades, and stakeholder trainingContribute to pilot programs and strategic projects across the Risk & Legal Excellence functionKey ResponsibilitiesDeliver timely, actionable feedback to the Business Intake Manager and senior leadership based on insights from daily business intake operationsMaintain expert-level knowledge of:AML/CTF laws and regulatory guidance (Australia & PNG)Conflict of interest rulesLegal professional obligations across relevant jurisdictionsConduct complex assessments including:AML risk evaluationsKYC/CDD reviewsConflicts analyses to support sound client and matter acceptance decisionsServe as the go-to technical specialist for junior team members:Provide guidance on queriesConduct quality reviewsManage escalation triageExecute high-volume business intake tasks with precision and full compliance with firm policies and standardsReview and approve intake outputs from junior colleagues, escalating high-risk or sensitive matters to the Business Intake Manager as appropriateDeliver business intake-related advice and training to partners, fee earners, and legal assistants—independently or alongside the Business Intake ManagerExperience You're experienced, detail-oriented, and thrive in a collaborative environment.
You bring a strong understanding of AML/CTF regulations (especially in Australia and Papua New Guinea), and you're passionate about building processes that support excellence and integrity.
You're also a natural mentor—ready to guide junior colleagues while growing your own leadership skills.Experience of AML/CTF, KYC/CDD processes and systems such as Intapp and other compliance risk platforms such as Orbis or World-Check, preferably in an international law firmIntapp knowledge and experience is strongly preferredDetailed knowledge of AML/CTF requirements, conflicts rules and risks associated with the range of services in the legal industryA bachelor degree or higher qualification preferred.
A recognised AML/Compliance qualification is desirable but not essentialMust have good knowledge of Microsoft Office applications and other productivity toolsDemonstrated track record of mentoring or training junior staff in a professional-services environmentSkills and Attributes Excellent communication skills, with the ability to liaise confidently with partners, lawyers, and business services teamsProven ability to efficiently solve complex problems in a methodical and practical wayHighly organised and capable of managing conflicting priorities & deadlinesExcellent analytical and problem-solving skillsMeticulous attention to detail, balanced with commercial awareness and an agile approach to problem solvingStrong project mindset, adaptable to regulatory changes and/or changes in firm policies or priorities, and keen to champion new initiativesTeam-oriented professional who excels in collaboration, drives results through collective effort, and actively promotes a culture of excellence and risk managementAbout us Corrs Chambers Westgarth is Australia's leading independent law firm.
