Risk & Legal Excellence
Full time
Join Corrs Chambers Westgarth, Australia's leading independent law firm.
Are you ready to be part of something new, dynamic, and strategically vital? Corrs Chambers Westgarth is building a cutting-edge Business Intake team within our broader Risk & Legal Excellence function—and we're looking for a sharp, collaborative, and forward-thinking Business Intake Advisor to help shape its future.
As a Business Intake Advisor, you'll be at the heart of our client onboarding process—ensuring every new engagement meets our rigorous standards for compliance, risk management, and professional excellence. You'll work closely with senior legal professionals, partners, and business services teams to deliver timely, accurate assessments that support the firm's strategic goals.
This is more than a compliance role—it's a chance to influence policy, mentor rising talent, and contribute to cross-functional initiatives that drive innovation across the firm.
The Business Intake Advisor will (non-exhaustive):
- Lead end-to-end business intake checks for new clients and matters, including conflict screening and AML/CTF due diligence
- Use platforms like Intapp to deliver fast, accurate assessments
- Advise partners and internal teams on regulatory obligations and escalation pathways
- Mentor and coach junior team members to build consistency and technical expertise
- Collaborate on policy roll-outs, system upgrades, and stakeholder training
- Contribute to pilot programs and strategic projects across the Risk & Legal Excellence function
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver timely, actionable feedback to the Business Intake Manager and senior leadership based on insights from daily business intake operations
Maintain expert-level knowledge of:
AML/CTF laws and regulatory guidance (Australia & PNG)
- Conflict of interest rules
- Legal professional obligations across relevant jurisdictions
Conduct complex assessments including:
AML risk evaluations
- KYC/CDD reviews
- Conflicts analyses to support sound client and matter acceptance decisions
Serve as the go-to technical specialist for junior team members:
Provide guidance on queries
- Conduct quality reviews
- Manage escalation triage
- Execute high-volume business intake tasks with precision and full compliance with firm policies and standards
- Review and approve intake outputs from junior colleagues, escalating high-risk or sensitive matters to the Business Intake Manager as appropriate
- Deliver business intake-related advice and training to partners, fee earners, and legal assistants—independently or alongside the Business Intake Manager
Experience
You're experienced, detail-oriented, and thrive in a collaborative environment. You bring a strong understanding of AML/CTF regulations (especially in Australia and Papua New Guinea), and you're passionate about building processes that support excellence and integrity. You're also a natural mentor—ready to guide junior colleagues while growing your own leadership skills.
- Experience of AML/CTF, KYC/CDD processes and systems such as Intapp and other compliance risk platforms such as Orbis or World-Check, preferably in an international law firm
- Intapp knowledge and experience is strongly preferred
- Detailed knowledge of AML/CTF requirements, conflicts rules and risks associated with the range of services in the legal industry
- A bachelor degree or higher qualification preferred. A recognised AML/Compliance qualification is desirable but not essential
- Must have good knowledge of Microsoft Office applications and other productivity tools
- Demonstrated track record of mentoring or training junior staff in a professional-services environment
Skills and Attributes
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to liaise confidently with partners, lawyers, and business services teams
- Proven ability to efficiently solve complex problems in a methodical and practical way
- Highly organised and capable of managing conflicting priorities & deadlines
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
- Meticulous attention to detail, balanced with commercial awareness and an agile approach to problem solving
- Strong project mindset, adaptable to regulatory changes and/or changes in firm policies or priorities, and keen to champion new initiatives
- Team-oriented professional who excels in collaboration, drives results through collective effort, and actively promotes a culture of excellence and risk management
